LESSON 3:
Developmental Tasks and
Challenges experienced during
Adolescence.
OBJECTIVES
At the end of this lesson, the learner shall be able to:
1. Discuss developmental tasks and challenges being experienced during adolescence.
2. Evaluate one’s development through the help of significant people around him/her (peers,
parents, siblings, friends, teachers, community leaders).
3. Identify ways that help one become capable and responsible adolescent prepared for adult life.

specific knowledge, skills, attitudes and
functions that a person needs to
acquire and demonstrate at particular
periods in his or her life."

The developmental tasks are mastered by teenagers in a sequential order,
following the 3 stages in the adolescence period namely;
Early Adolescence
Middle Adolescence
Late Adolescence

Three Stages
in
Adolescence Period
Adolescence is a period of transition when the
individual changes—physically and psychologically
—from a child to an adult. It is a period when rapid
physiological and psychological changes demand
new social roles to take place.
Three Stages in Adolescence Period
EARLY ADOLESCENCE PERIOD (12-13 yrs old)
Experiences rapid growth and various changes
Primary developmental task is adapting to biological and
mental development
EARLY ADOLESCENCE PERIOD (12-13 yrs old)
While in this period, you must :
Embrace the fact that you are physically maturing already and know
how to take care of your body.
Accept the fact that you are sexually capable of reproduction
Lastly, be comfortable with the way you look
Three Stages in Adolescence Period
MIDDLE ADOLESCENCE PERIOD (14-16 yrs old)
Primary developmental tasks include:
Accepting one's own physique and using one's body
effectively
Achieving new and mature relations with age mates of
both sexes
Achieving a masculine or feminine social roles, and;
Achieving emotional independence from parents and
adults
MIDDLE ADOLESCENCE PERIOD (14-16 yrs old)
