Deutsche Bahn

• The Deutsche Bahn AG ; abbreviated as DB or DB AG) is a German railway company.


Headquartered in Berlin, it is a private joint-stock company (AG), with the 
Federal Republic of Germany being its single shareholder.[2][3]
• Deutsche Bahn describes itself as the second-largest transport company in the world, after the
German postal and logistics company Deutsche Post / DHL, and is the largest railway operator and
infrastructure owner in Europe. Deutsche Bahn was the largest railway company in the world by
revenue in 2015.[4] It carries about two billion passengers annually.
• The group is divided into several companies, including DB Fernverkehr (long-distance passenger), 
DB Regio (local passenger services) and DB Cargo (rail freight). The Group subsidiary DB Netz also
operates large parts of the German railway infrastructure and thus the largest rail network in
Europe.
• In rail transport, the company generates about half of its total revenue. The other half of the
operating business comprises the further transport and logistics business as well as various service
providers. The company generates part of its sales through public transport contracts; support will
also be provided for maintenance and expansion of the infrastructure.
• Passenger transport companies carried around 4.4 billion passengers in 2016 with their trains and
buses. In 2016 DB logistics companies transported 277 million tons of goods in rail freight transport
.[5]

• More robust thanks to more train-paths: Since the German rail reform, rail transport has increased by more than
20%. Now we are pushing the limits of our capacity.
• Therefore we are striving for growth by a total of about 350 million train-path km and thus create space for more
than 30% more capacity on the rails.
• More robust thanks to more trains: The capacity of our fleet is expanding by modernizing existing vehicles and
investing in new ones.
• In this way, we are expanding our long-distance fleet by about 25% to up to 600 trains and extending trains for
higher seating capacity.

depots, including creating a whole new one.
• In 2019, the first employee building block was chosen, Safe travel, and its implementation began in January 2020.

knowledge – how can we better share and use the valuable knowledge within DB Group? By June 2020, we intend
to develop further employee building blocks around this multifaceted topic.
• More modern thanks to a faster sequence: We want to achieve significant reductions in travel time across all of
Germany.
• For this purpose, we are creating new connections and more interchanges for almost all cities with more than
100,000 inhabitants. This will result in better connections to the longdistance network – at least every two hours.
• We at Deutsche Bahn have committed ourselves to an ambitious target of being climate-neutral by 2050.
• In order to achieve this target, we have set ourselves ambitious intermediate milestones: by 2030, we will more
than halve our specific greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2006 and increase the share of renewable energies
in the traction current mix to 80%. By 2038, we will fully switch traction current to 100% eco-power all of the time.

• A total of € 30 million has been set aside in the
Federal budget for 2020. The funding guideline was
published on May 12, 2020. As an additional
measure aimed at strengthening rail freight
transport, the Federal budget for 2020 includes a
facility price promotion of € 40 million
