WHAT ARE THE SEASONS?
⬩ A season = a time of the year when you can expect a
special type of weather.
3
⬩ Places which are closer to the north and south of the
Equator, have all four seasons, namely summer,
winter, spring and autumn.
5
-short autumn – September to October
-cool and wet winter – November to February
-spring – March and April

THE
TILTE
D
EARTH
7
⬩ Not only does the Earth revolve around the Sun
every year, but the Earth rotates on its axis every 24
hours.
8
⬩ It is slightly tilted.
⬩ In scientific terms, the Earth is tilted 23.5 degrees from its orbital
plane with the Sun.
9
THE TILTED EARTH
⬩ We have seasons because the Earth moves around the Sun.
10
⬩ In autumn the amount of time it is light becomes less, the leaves
start to change colour and fall off the trees. Autumn is called Fall in
the United States of America.
11
⬩ In spring the weather usually turns warmer, trees begin to grow
their leaves, plants start to flower and young animals such as chicks
and lambs are born.
