Design of the ALS K to 12 Curriculum (2019 edition)

Patterned after the K to 12 Curriculum Framework anchored

on the following 21st Century Skills:

 Information, Media and Technology Skills

 Learning and Innovation Skills
 Communication Skills
 Life and Career Skills
ALS K to 12 Curriculum

 It uses the standard terminologies and coding system of K to 12

Curriculum.
 All learning strands in the curriculum have been enhanced to
integrate 21st Century learning competencies and concepts.
 Examples of application of competencies in everyday life have
been included to help guide the implementation of the curriculum
by ALS learning facilitators and development of appropriate,
relevant and responsive learning materials and learning assessment
tools
ALS K to 12 Curriculum
 Some competencies in the original ALS Curriculum were
rephrased, refined, re-sequenced and at times transferred
under different Learning Strands, to streamline the
organizational structure of the curriculum.
 Additional competencies that respond to recent global
developments were added. These include ASEAN
regional integration, global citizenship and digital
citizenship.
ALS K to 12 Curriculum

 A budget of work (BOW) is being prepared to help guide ALS

implementers in determining program duration for each learner during
implementation of the new ALS curriculum.
 The BOW provides estimates of the duration (in hours) needed to
master the competencies of each learning strand per learning level.
 The BOW also includes some guidance regarding the number of
minutes recommended per session per learning stand (Minimum of 30
minutes – Maximum of 120 minutes) and for independent learning

ALS New Curriculum -Time Allotment
 Given the expanded content scope of the new ALS Curriculum, the length of time
needed by learners to develop these competencies through participation in an ALS
learning program will be much longer than the old ALS program duration.
 Actual time would depend on the prior educational background/existing knowledge
level of learners entering the ALS program.

 Requirements for A & E certification
-Learners Portfolio containing
learning outputs as evidence
of mastery of competencies
 80% A & E test
 20% Portfolio
 Beginning June 3, 2019, ALS programs are
required to implement the 2019 ALS K to 12
BEC
 Learners who wish to enroll in ALS sessions
later than June 3 can still be accommodated
 Enhanced ALS program duration will be
longer than the old curriculum
 ALS teachers should register their learners
in the LIS.
 A & E test will be based on the new
curriculum that include higher competencies
in English, Science, Math & Digital
Citizenship
 Given the more complex academic
competencies in the JHS, ALS teachers will
likely need to seek additional support from
English, Science and Math specialists
 Life skills – (June-July 2019)
