Being a Filipino
What is Political Self?
Representation of oneself about
him/herself
Public identity one makes and constructs
about him/ herself to be.
Political position based on the interests
and perspectives of one’s social
organizations.
Who is a Filipino?
According to 1987 Philippine Constitution,
“Filipino citizens are those whose fathers or
mothers are citizens of the Philippines, those
born before January 17, 1973, of Filipino
mothers, who elect Philippine citizenship
upon reaching the age of majority, and those
who are naturalized in accordance with
law.”
Filipino Values & Traits
Traits - referred to as a distinguishing
characteristic, typically one belonging to a
person
Values - is the regard that something is held
to deserve; the importance, worth or
usefulness of something.
Filipino Values
The Filipino values can best be seen from the
aspects of personal and social relationships.
Filipinos value more their honor and status
than anything else.
In decision making, Filipinos usually consult
and take into consideration the consensus of
the family members as the feelings of those
who are to be affected.
Socially, Filipinos give more
emphasis on social relationships.
In terms of emotions, Filipinos are
friendly.
