Relative compression petrol

 Measuring the current drawn by the starter motor is useful to determine starter condition
but it is also useful as an indicator of engine condition.
 The purpose of this particular waveform is therefore to measure the current required to
crank the engine and to evaluate the relative compressions.
 The current for a typical four cylinder petrol/ gasoline engine is in the region of 100–200
A.

Alternator waveform

 Checking the ripple voltage produced by an alternator is a very good way of assessing its
condition.
