Understand pre-installation requirements

1.1 Introduction
Before you install software, the first important step is to check the configuration
of your computer, and the system requirements of the software. The
configuration of your computer must match the requirements of the software to
be installed..

1.2 Definition
Understand pre-installation requirements is a computer purchased with a
Windows Operating System through the Procurement Office comes with pre-
installed software

1.3 Software applications that are pre-installed on new PCs

The following are a list of the software applications that are pre-installed on
new PCs and Laptops.

1.4 Understanding safety recommendation before and after

installation of software

This topic includes recommendations that you must consider before you install
software.

What do you mean by installation of hardware and software?
In computer terminology, install usually refers to putting software on a
computer (install the software), or adding hardware components to your
computer (install the hardware).

What are the hardware requirements for installing Windows?

 Hardware and software requirements

Below are the recommendations for hardware specifications.
 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
 1 GB of system memory.
 16 GB available hard drive space (32-bit), 20 GB available hard drive space
(64-bit)

1.5 Safety recommendation before installation of software
1. Back up your important data (this step should always be done prior to
installing a major update of any software)

2. Update your hardware drivers (the main drivers to update are your video
driver, printer Driver, network card driver)

3. Ensure that all Windows Updates are installed(other than Windows 7,8 or
10 or Windows XP ) , This ensures that all other components are up to
date

4. Check for Viruses and Malware

5. Run Windows Update

1.6 Safety recommendation after installation of software

In addition to fixing security flaws, updates also come in the form of bug fixes
and new features, both of which are also nice to have. We’re going to be talking
about how to keep three major aspects of your PC up to date:

1.Windows. Windows Update has grown more insistent over the years in
keeping itself up to date. In Windows 10, security updates are downloaded and
installed automatically.

2.Third-Party Apps. Keeping third-party apps up to date is nearly as important

as keeping Windows itself updated. Unfortunately, how updates get installed is
up to the people making those apps.

3.Hardware Drivers. By and large, keeping hardware drivers up to date is less
a security issue than one of functionality. New driver updates tend to add bug
and stability fixes or, in the case of things like video card drivers, better
performance and functionality with newer games and apps.

Keeping Windows and your third-party apps up to date is arguably the most
critical action you can take to help keep your PC and, by extension, yourself
safe. So let’s get to it.

1.7 Understanding power supply requirements

What is power supply?

A power supply is a hardware component that supplies power to
an electrical device. It receives power from an electrical outlet and converts the
current from AC (alternating current) to DC (direct current), which is what the
computer requires.

How do power supply work

A power supply unit (or PSU) converts mains AC to low-voltage regulated DC
power for the internal components of a computer. Modern personal computers
universally use switched-mode power supplies. Some power supplies have a
manual switch for selecting input voltage, while others automatically adapt to
the mains voltage.

1.8 Understanding supply requirements

Is it safe to install a higher wattage power supply in my computer?

That means a power supply rated for 520 watts can supply more
electrical power than one rated for 300 watts. That's more electrical power. It
won't make your computer run faster or give you more
“computational” power — this is only about the electricity required to operate
your hardware.
Power supplies come in a variety of wattages. They range anywhere from
around 160 watts to about 700 watts. 350 to 400 watt power supplies are
probably the most common.

1.9 Ensuring the necessary system requirements

Your system must meet the following minimum requirements:

 Pentium x86 processor.
 1 GB RAM.
 1 GB video display RAM.
 1 GB free disk space.
 Wireless or Ethernet connection to the network.
 32-bit or 64-bit Windows or Linux operating system.
 Adobe Flash Player 11.0 or later.

Your Windows system must be running one of the following:
 Windows Vista
 Windows 7
 Windows 8
 Windows 8
 Windows Server 2003
 Windows Server 2008

updates

System Software Updates

1. Go to settings.
2. Click "Update and Security."
3. Click, "Windows Update."
4. After Windows Update opens, click "Check for Updates" on the top left side
of the window.

1.11 Understanding operating system and browser target
requirement
An Operating System (OS) is a collection of software that manages computer.
Now let's get into those major concepts you need to understand in more detail.
Process Privileges: This is required to allow/disallow access to system
resources. With a cloud app, you just open a browser, log in, customize the
app, and start.
What browser should I support?
If you cannot use Chrome, we recommend you use Mozilla Firefox or Apple
Safari. In addition to the aforementioned browsers, Microsoft Edge is
also supported. Internet Explorer is not supported. If you experience browser-
related issues, please ensure you are using the most up-to-date version of
your browser.

1.12 Considering resource allocation

Resource allocation is a process and strategy involving a company deciding

where scarce resources should be used in the production of goods or

services. A resource can be considered any factor of production, which is

something used to produce goods or services.

A resource allocation process is the method that project managers use

to allocate budget, equipment, people, tools, and data to the project areas

where it's most needed. Effective resource allocation is half science and half

art.
Compiled by:-Capt.Habtamu.D 15
How do you allocate resources?

 Know Your Scope. Before you can allocate your resources or manage them,

you have to determine the scope of the project you're working on.

 Identify Resources.

 Don't Procrastinate.

 Think Holistically.

 Track Time.

 Use Tools.

 Don't Over-allocate.

 Be Realistic.
Compiled by:-Capt.Habtamu.D 16
Why is allocation of resources important?

Resource allocation in project management is so important because it gives a

clear picture on the amount of work that has to be done. It also helps to

schedule ahead and have an insight into the team's progress, including

allocating the right amount of time to everyone on the team.
