Resources:
Minerals and mining also are important to Uzbekistan's economy. Gold, alongside cotton, is a major
foreign exchange earner, unofficially estimated at around 20% of total exports
Uzbekistan is the world's seventh-largest gold producer, mining about 80 tons per year, and holds the
fourth-largest reserves in the world
Uzbekistan has an abundance of natural gas, used both for domestic consumption and export; oil used
for domestic consumption; and significant reserves of copper, lead, zinc, tungsten, and uranium
Corruption Index
The Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries and territories based on how corrupt their public sector is
perceived to be. A country or territory's rank indicates its position relative to the other countries and
territories in the index
Corruption in Uzbekistan is a serious problem. There are laws in place to prevent corruption, but the
enforcement is very weak. Low prosecution rates of corrupt officials is another contributing factor to the
rampant corruption in Uzbekistan. It is not a criminal offence for a non-public official to influence the
discretion of a public official
The judicial system faces severe functional deficits due to limited resources and corruption
In Uzbekistan, corruption is present at virtually every level of society, business, and government. It is also
one of the world's most corrupt countries, and among the contributory factors is its possessing the second
largest economy in Central Asia, its large reserves of natural gas, and its geographical position between the
rival powers of the so-called Cold War II
Corruption Index is 25 and the rank is 153 among 180 least corrupt nations

Global Competitiveness Index
The Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) of the World Economic Forum (WEF) assesses the economic
potential, as well as the ability of the state to provide a certain standard of living for citizens. The indicator,
in turn, demonstrates the degree of efficiency in the use of available resources by the state
Currently, Uzbekistan is not included in GCI but it is expected that the country will join the GCI from 2021
