05 Conclusion
This presentation is going to compare
and contrast the differences and
similarities of the forests and ecosystem
in Viet Nam before and after The Period
Of National Renewal (1986)
The reason that we choose the timeline of the
year 1986 : it was the year of national renewal in
Vietnam, it was also a year showing many changes
in the economic structure before and after the
decision on reform and opening up of the state.
From a country that only focused on agriculture
before, after the country's renovation, there was
an economic transition towards industrialization
and modernization.
SIMILARITIES
About forests we mention to 2 types:
natural forests and planted forests.

+ The area of natural forests before

and after 1986 has decreased

+ The area of planted forests before

and after 1986 has increased.

Differences
BEFORE AFTER
1. Total forest area decreased sharply from 1943 to 1. Since 1995, Vietnam's total forest area
1985 increased significantly
=> For more than 40 years, Vietnam lost more than => In 20 years, there is an increase in the forest
4 million hectares of forest area of nearly 5 million hectares)
2. The area of planted forests grew slightly from 2. The area of planted forests soared over 20 years
1975- 1985 from 1995 to 2018
=> Increasing about 0.492 million hectares in 10 => Increasing over 3 million hectares.
years
3. The area of the natural forest has been rapidly 3. The area of natural forest has been steadily rised
reduced. since 1995.
The lowest area of natural forest in 1990 was only
8.43 million ha.
4. Forest cover across the country plummeted and 4. Forest cover grew steadily with each year.
was the lowest at 27.8% in 1990 However, the target of greening 43% (Phan, 1998) of the
country is still not reached
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment
said that the area of primary forest has been
seriously reduced, currently there is very little. Most
of the natural forests today are only poor forests.

Although the total forest area has increased,

the quality has declined. And the forest area is
mainly in protection forests and forest
conservation areas rather than stretching
Vietnam as before.

GOOD NEWS

According to a recent article

from The Guardian, there is an
animal named mouse deer that
scientists thought to be extinct
worldwide for 30 years has just
appeared in the jungle of
Vietnam.

(Mouse deer species not seen for nearly 30 years is found

alive in Vietnam, 2019)

With the comparision of the forests and ecosystem in Viet Nam before
