GFRG PANELS

(GLASSFIBREREINFORCEDGYPSUMPANELS)
• GFRG panels stands for Glass
fibre reinforced gypsum
panels

• It is a type of panel made

from glass fibre and gypsum

• It is an ecofriendly material

• It can be used for construction

of walls,roofs,slabs etc.
• It was developed by
Austalia in 1990

• Its dimension is : 12m

x 3m x 124mm

• Also known as
Rapidwall,Gypcrete
etc.

• Reduced cost by 20-

30%
MANUFACTURING
• Raw materials

Phosphogypsum
Glass fibre rovings
Water
White cement
D 50 (retarder)
BS 94 (water repellant)
• Gypsum is an industrial
waste from fertilizer
industries

• Phoshogypsum is
generated as bypoduct of
phosphoric acid plant

• Glass fiber also called

fiberglass. It is a material
made from extremely fine
fibers of glass

• Fiberglass is a lightweight,
extremely strong, and
robust material.

CONSTRUCTION

• Gfrg panels does not

require any special type of
foundation

• Upto plinth level the

construction is done as per
conventional building
• For erection of panel as wall,
12 mm vertical
reinforcement called “starter
bars” of 0.75m length of
which 0.45 m protrudes up
and remaining portion is
placed into the RCC plinth
beams before casting

• These bars are kept at a

distance of 1m centre to
centre to match the cavities
of the panel
• Pre-cut panels are brought to the construction site

• Panels are kept over the starter bars on the plinth beam
using cranes.

• Appropriate reinforcement bars are inserted as per design

into the cavities

• Verticality of panels are checked and then cavities having

reinforcements are filled with concrete
• It is mandatory to reinforce and fill all the joints with
concrete

• Other cavities can be filled with any inert materials

(e.g.quarry dust mixed with 5% cement and water)
Otherconstructions
• Staircase is constructed by
using panel as waist and
landing slabs with
reinforcement in all cavities
Roof slab
• Formworks are erected.
• Panels are then placed in
position.
• Every third cavity is then cut
open from the top and
reinforcement cages are
inserted for concrete micro
beams
• Welded wire mesh is then
kept all over the panel
• Then concreting is done with
thickness 50mm
• Subsequently waterproofing
of roof is done
Uses
• As light weight load bearing wall

• Horizontal roofs/slabs

• As partition wall

• As compound wall

• Cladding in industrial structures

• Pitched roofing
Advantages
• Waste is used as resource, making it very economical.
• Green building material-thus environment friendly
• Uses very less sand, steel and water
• Fire resistant
• Earthquake resistant
• Less labour force are needed
• Weight of structure is very less
• More carpet area for same built up area
• No need of beams and columns for house construction
• No need of plastering thus cost can be saved in finishing
How much you can save with GFRG:
Disadvantages
• More space needed for crane movement

• Complicated design will make it less economical

• Skilled labours needed

• GFRG panels should be handled with care while

transportation and erection

• Need specific machinery for cutting GFRG panels at site

• Erection and placing of GFRG panels are a bit difficult.

• Cannot be used for walls with circular or higher curvature
