Why is Spain famous ?

Spain is famous for its expansive


history,
Castilian architecture, unique cuisine,
flamenco dance and bull fighting.
The country has an ancient history
with influences from the Moor and
Roman empires, making Spain one of
the most heavily multicultural
countries on earth.

HISTORY
Who founded Spain and when?

In the Middle Ages, the area was


conquered by Germanic tribes and later
by the Moors. Spain emerged as a unified
country in the 15th century, following the
marriage of the Catholic Monarchs and
the completion of the centuries-long
recon quest, or Reconquista, of the
peninsula from the Moors in 1492.

Spain currency or the currency
used in Spain is Euro as it is
located in southern portion of
Europe . Being a part of the
European Union and the Euro
zone, Spain adopted the common
European Currency Euro(symbol:
€) in the Year 2002.

Importance of Spanish Language
• The Spanish language is spoken in many areas of the
world due to the early influence of the Spanish Empire
• It is spoken in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia,
Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador,
Equatorial Guinea, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras,
Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto
Rico, Uruguay & Venezuela
• It is also spoken in parts of Andorra, Belize, Gibraltar,
Morocco, the Philippines and the USA

NATIONAL FLOWER
The national flower of
Spain is Red carnation. its
Spanish name is clavel.  Its
scientific name is
(Dianthus) caryophyllus. It
belongs to caryophyllaceae
family. It is a nonwoody
herb or plant part growing
to 80 cm tall.

NATIONAL ANIMAL
• The national animal of Spain is the bull. Bulls
are an important symbol in Spanish culture,
especially in traditions, such as bullfighting
and the Running of the Bulls.

In which hemisphere is Spain?

Spain is in three hemispheres: the


Northern Hemisphere, the Eastern
Hemisphere and the Western
Hemisphere. The Prime Meridian, which
divides the Eastern and Western
Hemispheres, runs right through eastern
Spain, which puts the country in both
hemispheres simultaneously. According
to About Geography, Spain is more
unambiguously in the Northern
Hemisphere, which starts at the Equator.

CLIMATE OF SPAIN
There are three different climate zones in Spain ,
due to its large size. Visitors can generally
expect a Mediterranean climate, characterized
by hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters.
The vast central plateau, or Meseta, has a more
continental influenced climate with hot , dry
summers and cold winters. Rain generally falls
mostly in spring and autumn. The mountains
surrounding the plateau have a higher rainfall
and often experience heavy snowfalls in winter.

NATIONAL BIRD
The national bird of Spain is the
Spanish imperial eagle . The
eagle is golden brown in color
and has a predominant beak. It
has a wingspan of between 71
and 83 inches, and adults weigh
between 6 and 7 pounds. It feeds
primarily on rabbits .

Spain is 82.38 years ( in 2012 ).

Geography of SPAIN
• Much of central Spain is covered
by plateau surrounded by mountain
ranges.
• There are also some lowlands
located on the coast.
• For most of the century, most
Spanish people lived in small
villages or towns.
• Today, tourism and industry are
bringing many people to the larger
cities and coastal areas. 15
Medical treatment in Spain
In Spain, because it is a
socialist government, all
medical treatment is free.
-Most medicines are also free.
Medicines that do cost money
are very inexpensive.
-The doctors in Spain don´t
make as much money as the
doctors in the United States. 16
SCHOOLING
• Education in Spain is free and it lasts from 6 to
16 years of age.
• -Children from the ages of 3-5 have the
opportunity of attending pre-school.
• -Pre-school is free for all students in Spain.
• -There is Primary Schooling for ages 6-11.
Secondary Schooling begins when the child is
between the ages of 12-15.
• - The child can get a job when he or she is 16
years old.
• -The current education in Spain is known as the
Fundamental Law of Education

• Spain is very family oriented.
• Sunday is considered “Family Day” and all
of the malls and stores are closed so no
one in the family has to work and they can
spend all day with their loved ones.
• Spaniards eat lunch together almost
everyday.
• Adults leave work and children leave
school almost everyday to eat lunch with
their families.
• The grandparents usually live with the
families. If the family has little children,
who aren’t in school yet, they are left with
their grandparents while their parents go
to work.
• Families usually live near each other.
• They often buy apartments in the same
buildings or houses in the same 18
