A damp proof course (DPC) is a barrier installed in walls to prevent moisture from rising through capillary action. It is typically made of materials like concrete, bitumen, plastic, or metal sheets. The DPC is usually placed 150mm above the ground level and can be either horizontal or vertical. It acts as a moisture barrier to stop rising damp from entering buildings.

DAMP PROOF COURSE
A damp-proof course (DPC) is a barrier through the structure designed
to prevent moisture rising by capillary action such as through a phenomenon known as rising damp. Rising damp is the effect of water rising from the ground into property. Materials for DPC
• MATERIALS FOR DPC ,Cement Concrete ,Concrete 1:2:4 mix or
1:11/2:3 mix is provided at plinth level to work as DPC. The thickness may vary from 4 cm to 15 cm. This layer prevent water rise in wall by capillary action. Materials for DPC
• Flexible materials like butyl rubber, hot bitumen (asphalt), plastic
sheets, bituminous felts, sheets of lead, copper, etc. • Semi-rigid materials like mastic asphalt. • Rigid materials, like impervious brick, stone, slate, cement mortar, or cement concrete painted with bitumen, etc. • Stones. Level of DPC

level,150mm from ground level, to prevent moisture rising by capillary action. Rising damp is the effect of water rising from the ground into property. The damp proof course may be horizontal or vertical. DPC Vertical DPC
• A vertical DPC is similar to a horizontal DPC (or Damp Proof Course)
in that it stops damp travelling through your masonry. ... Vertical damp proof courses are usually installed around windows or doors when they are being installed in a cavity wall. Methods of Laying DPC • A damp proof course can be achieved using various methods and treatment options including the following: • Electro-osmotic damp proof course. ... • Chemical damp proof course. ... • Pressure grouting. ... • Membrane damp proof course. ... • Integral damp proof course. ... • Cavity wall damp proof course.
