 INTRODUCTION

 Synovial joint
 Ellipsoid variety

 Articulation –
Between Lower end of Radius, Articulation
disc of Inferior Radioulnar Joint Proximally
AND
Three lateral bones of proximal row of carpals
Distally.
i.e Scaphoid
Lunate
Triquetral
WRIST JOINT

 The wrist consist of two joints.

 RADIOCARPAL JOINTS
 MIDCARPAL JOINTS
 Thewrist joint has 2 degree of
freedom.

 EXTENSION – FLEXION

 ULNAR DEVIATION -
RADIAL DEVIATION
FLEXION = 65-85 DEGREE
EXTENSION = 60-85 DEGREE
ULNAR DEVIATION = 20-45DEGREE
RADIAL DEVIATION = 15-
21DEGREE
SPECIAL TESTS OF
WRIST

 For Tendons and Muscles

 For Neurological
Dysfunction
 For Circulation and
Swelling
TESTS FOR TENDONS & MUSCLES

1) Boyes Test
2) Bunnel-littler Test
3) Finkelstein Test
4) Sweater Finger Test
1.BOYES TEST
 Used for test central slip of extensor
hood.
2.BUNNEL-LITTLER TEST

 Finochietto-bunnel Test
 Indicate tight muscle capsule or
contracture of the joint capsule.
BUNNEL-LITTLER TEST
 Method:2
 IF PIP joint flexes fully it indicate INTRINSIC
muscles are tight.
 IF PIP joint does not flexes it indicate
CAPSULE is tight.
 Intrinsic-plus test
3. FINKELSTEIN TEST

 It is used to determine De Quervain or

Hoffmann disease and Paratenonitis in
thumb.
 Compare bilateraly,

Because normal individual may have

discomfort.
 It indicate paratenonitis of

Abductor Pollicis Longus

and
Extension Pollicis Brevis
tendon.
4. SWEATER FINGER SIGN
 Indicates rupture of
Flexor Digitoram Profundas.
 Most of occure in Ring finger.
TESTS FOR
NEUROLOGICAL
DYSFUNCION
1) Carpal Compression Test
2) Flick Maneuver
3) Froment’s “Paper” Sign
4) Hand Elevation Test
5) Phalen’s Test
6) Reverse Phalen’s Test
7) Tethered Median Nerve Stress
Test
8) Tinel Sign
9) Weber’s Two Point
Discrimination Test
10)Wrinkle Test
1. CARPAL COMPRESSION
TEST
 Indicating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or
Median nerve pathology.
 30 sec
2. FLICK MANEUVER

 Symptoms relive of median nerve

distributon pathology.
3. FROMENT’S “PEPAR” SIGN

 Indicating Ulnar nerve palsy by paralysis

of adductor pollicis muscle.
4. HAND ELEVATION TEST
 Symptoms
reproduce it
Indicates medial
nerve
distribution
pathology.
 2 min
5. PHALEN’S TEST
 Indicates Carpal Tunnel Syndrome caused
by pressure on Median nerve.
 1 min
6. REVERSE PHALEN’S TEST

 Prayer Test
 Indicating Median nerve pathology.
7. TETHERED MEDIAN
NERVE STRESS TEST
(TMNST)

 Indicating Median nerve pathology.

8.TINEL SIGN
 Indicating Carpal tunnel syndrome.
9. WEBER’S TWO POINT

 Moberg’s two point discrimination test
 Threshold for Discrimination

 Device – TWO POINT DISCRIMINARTION

AESTHESIOMETER
NORMAL VALUES

Normal Less then 6 mm

Fair 6 to 10 mm
Poor 11 to 15 mm
Protective 1 point perceived
Anesthetic 0 point perceived
10. WRINKLE TEST
 The patients finger placed into warm
water for approximately 5-20 minute.
 The Examiner remove patients finger from
water and then observes.
 NORMAL finger shows wrinkling on pulp,

But
DENERVATED once do not.
 The test valid only within the first few
month after injury.
