WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?
12
WISDOM
We see God at work in our lives
and in the world.
For the wise person, the wonders
of nature, historical events, and
the ups and downs of our lives
take on deeper meaning.
The matters of judgment about
the truth, and being able to see
the whole image of God.
We see God as our Father and
other people with dignity.
Lastly being able to see God in
everyone and everything
everywhere.
IN OTHER WORDS
A wise person is able to discern God’s wisdom in
making us experience different things- success
and even failures- we see that life experiences
have purpose and nothing is an accident- You are
able to see what God is revealing in your life.
A wise person knows the truth from what is not.
And we are able to see how God works in our lives
We are able to see that God is a loving Father
Thus we respect the dignity of each creation. For
God is also present and working among them.
15
COUNSEL
With the gift of
counsel/right judgment,
we know the difference
between right and
wrong, and we choose to
do what is right.
A person with right
judgment avoids sin and
lives out the values
taught by Jesus.
The gift of truth that
allows the person to
respond prudently, and
happily to believe our
Christ the Lord
IN OTHER WORDS
The gift of counsel enables us to discern what is
right from what is wrong-
The Holy Spirit helps us make good choices
In life we are surrounded by different choices- and
our choices determine the kind of person that we
ought to be.
There are easy choices to make and there some
that needs extra time to decide.
The gift of counsel helps us to make good choices
and avoid evil. We do what we think is right and we
are happy with what believe about Christ.
UNDERSTANDING
We comprehend how/why we
need to live as a follower of
Christ.
A person with understanding is
not confused by all the
conflicting messages in our
culture about the right way to
live.
The gift of understanding
perfects a person's
speculative reason in the
apprehension of truth.
It is the gift whereby self-
evident principles are known,
IN OTHER WORDS

comprehend why and how we can become a follower of
Christ.

with the conflicting values that the world or culture
presents us.
This gift completes our speculative thoughts.
This gift of understanding truly understands from his
heart the reason of why he is doing what he does. And
this value becomes part of his life, and he don’t just do
it, he knows and understands the principles behind his
actions.
FORTITUDE
With the gift of fortitude/courage, we
overcome our fear and are willing to
take risks as a follower of Jesus
Christ.
A person with courage is willing to
stand up for what is right in the sight
of God, even if it means accepting
rejection, verbal abuse, or even
physical harm and death.
The gift of courage allows people the
firmness of mind that is required
both in doing good and in enduring
evil, especially with regard to goods
or evils that are difficult to do.
IN OTHER WORDS
The gift of fortitude enables us to follow the
teachings of Christ- to do the good values that we
believe, to stand for the truth in spite of the fear,
the threat, rejection, verbal abuse, not being- “in”
with the group, or become unpopular, and in the
extreme death.
We hold for what we believe is right- and we testify
to the truth in spite of the fear we have in our
hearts and the external threats present in our way.
We have a firm stand for the truth that we believe
and live it out in spite of fear.
FEAR OF THE LORD
IN OTHER WORDS
The gift of fear of the Lord or wonder and awe enables us to
become aware of the glory and majesty of God
He is the perfection of knowledge, power, goodness and love.
As St. Thomas Aquinas describe it – it is like a filial fear or a child
afraid of offending his father, whom he knows loves him. Not a
servile fear or fear of punishment but rather, he knows how much
he is loved and so he is afraid of offending that love given to him.
We know God is powerful- he can do what he wants to us. And yet
we know that he loves so much- the gift of fear of the Lord enables
us to avoid sin because sin offends God. FEAR of the Lord is the
beginning of wisdom; because we become aware of how little we
are to God, and how we are dependent on him.
PIETY
(Reverence): With the
gift of reverence,
sometimes called piety,
we have a deep sense of
respect for God and the
church.
A person with reverence

blessed, by praying attending the Mass, and most
importantly doing good to our neighbors are signs
of true piety
KNOWLEDGE

understand the meaning of God.
The gift of knowledge is more
than an accumulation of facts.

the virtue of faith.

faithful can see God’s
providence in whatever enters
their lives and put creatures to
the right use.

God.
Having the “know how” of how things and the world works we are
able to put things and creatures in the right use.
Right use of Knowledge-
A person with knowledge is aware of facts of life and is able to judge
them according to God’s point of view. We can easily know how to
