Introduction to Green IoT

– Implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) using techniques and

technologies reducing the Carbon foot-print is referred to us
Green IoT.

– It involves using most power efficient devices and

algorithms so that energy efficiency in computing,
communicating and controlling is done most efficiently.

– Energy efficiency in the Internet of Things (IoT) has been

attracting a lot of attention from researchers and
designers over the last couple of years.

Introduction to Green IoT

– Increasing energy efficiency has several aspects in itself-enhancing

energy efficiency of key IoT enabled devices, communications,
Computing, and application processes.
– Thus in Green IoT one uses:
More energy efficient devices,
Communications devices and networks which are highly energy efficient,
Computing devices that are highly energy efficient, and
Algorithms that result in reduced energy consumption when
implemented.

Green IoT : Definition

– Green IoT can be defined as the energy

efficient procedures (hardware or software)
adopted by IoT either to facilitate reducing the
greenhouse effect of existing applications and
services or to reduce the impact of greenhouse
effect of IoT itself.

Why Green IoT is Relevant?

– National Intelligence Council (NIC) foresees that “by 2025,

Internet nodes may reside in everyday things, i.e., food
packages, furniture, paper documents, and more”.
– Generally, low resources in terms of computation,
communication, and energy capacity characterize the things
composing the IoT.
– By the year 2025, the number of IoT connected devices will be a
stunning 75 Billion! See the graph on the growth of IoT devices.
– The global IoT market will grow from US$157B in 2016 to
US$457B by 2020, attaining a Compound Annual Growth Rate
(CAGR) of 28.5%. 13 January 2020

What We Intend to Do..

– A detailed study of power consumption of IoT

Devices (including Sensor Nodes, and Signal
Transmitters), LoRaWAN gateway, and Cloud
Computing Environment.

– Implement techniques to reduce energy consumption of

the above components at all levels.

Project Objectives

– Detailed analysis of Power Consumption in IoT devices,

Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) and Cloud
Computing Network.

– Implementation of power saving algorithms and practices

to reduce the Carbon-Footprint.

– Comparison of Performance-Performance Analysis.
