What is a dress code?

• A set of standards which tell what is appropriate


to wear to work.

• Dress codes can range from:


 casual
 business casual
 formal

• Professional and casual dress days.


Why dress code is important?
• Face of the organization - impression on customers.

• Dress code formality - The amount of interaction employees


have with customers.

• A more casual dress code is normally adopted for employees


with no customer or client contact. Vice Versa.
“Conservative” Is the Key

• Not appropriate for both men and


women clothing that:

 reveals too much cleavage,


 your back,
 your chest,
 your feet,
 your stomach,
 your undergarments.
“Conservative” Is the Key
• Dressing conservatively gives an image of being:

 Professional
 Serious
 Careful and,
 Responsible person.

• Leaves a lasting impression.

• Otherwise:

 not taken seriously and


 usually avoided to carry out important tasks.

1. Casual Dressing
• Difference between
"informal" and “sloppy”.

• "not formal" or "suited for


everyday use,“

• Jeans and a T-shirt have


been described as the
"casual uniform".
Casual….a relaxed dress code
 Examples of acceptable clothing pieces include:

 well-tailored jeans,

 khaki pants,

 button-down shirts

 casual blouses and


Flats (women)
Casual….. Doesn’t mean sloppy

 If jeans are acceptable in


offices, all business casual
apparel should be neatly:

 ironed,
 free of frayed edges,
 free of fades
 free of tearing at knees
 in good condition.

 Facial hair should be neat,


no body odour, no dandruff.
Casual…..

 No offensive graphics or
words are not acceptable

 Company logos are ok.

#2. Business Casual - Wear the Suit Without
a Tie –
 It simply means you do not need to wear a tie with suit.

 However, it does not call for casual attire such as jeans


and T-shirts

The objective of a
business casual style of
dress is to look neat and
well-groomed but
relaxed--comfortable yet
classy.
Business Casual….
A man’s option for business casual includes:

 a polo shirt,
 collared shirt

 Sweater

 Khaki or dress pants along with dress shoes make


up his business casual outfit

 Loafers
Business Casual….Don’ts
 A business casual look for men does NOT include:

 t-shirts,
 shorts
 Sandals or sneakers
 Jeans
 shorts or sweatpants
 tattoos and piercings
 Tie
Business casual for women….
 Generally, any clothing that reveals cleavage, stomachs or
thighs is unacceptable.

 Women should choose clothes that are not too tight.

 Flip-flops and short dresses are inappropriate.

 Use restrained makeup, jewelry and hair styles.


Business casual for women….
 Coordinate bag with shoes.

 Avoid very high heels.

 Flats with covered toes are the safest


bet.

 Jewelry should be minimal and not


outlandish; avoid extreme color and
loud styles.

 A simple watch is appropriate.


#3. Suit up! – Formal
• The wardrobe of a
man cannot be complete
without a suit.

• A suit is a two or three


piece outfit consisting of
jacket/coat
and trouser of the same
fabric sometimes
accompanied by a
waistcoat.
• Formal business skirted suits for women
should come at the knee when standing.

• Longer skirts may have a slit just above


the knee.

• Formal suits may require a slip to be worn


underneath.

• The slip should not be visible.

• Business suits require you to wear closed


toe shoes.

• Women should avoid revealing too much


cleavage or wearing too much jewelry as
accessories.

Single-breasted suit
• a single enclosure with only one set of
buttons and button holes, which do not
overlap.

• It can be two buttoned, generally


accepted, or three buttoned.

• The one button version is generally for


dinner jackets.

• Also called, the British style suit.


Waistcoat

• It is a close fitting waist


length garment, without
sleeves or collar.

• It maybe made of the


same fabric of the suit but
back is of silk.

• It has a ‘V’ shaped neck.


Double Breasted Suit
• A formal appearance

• This type of suit requires you


to keep it buttoned while
worn.

• It generally has four or six


button options.
• Two front overlapping
across the body.

• Also known as the Italian


style suit.
