Eligibility Criteria to Become a Lecturer
Below is the eligibility criteria that the candidates have to fulfill to become a lecturer
in Indian Universities or Colleges:
To become a lecturer or to pursue higher education further i.e. M.Phil. / Ph.D., you need
to clear any of the following exams:
UGC NET
CSIR NET
GATE
SLET
Entrance Exams for a Lecturer
UGC NET Exam is conducted by NTA assess the skill of candidates required to hold the
position of lecturers / professors / associates / research fellows at reputable universities
in India.
To appear in this exam candidates should have at least 55% aggregate marks in the
postgraduation or 50% aggregate marks (for ST / SC / OBC / PWD) from a government
recognized institute.
Entrance Exams for a Lecturer
GATE Exam:
GATE Exam is conducted for admission to M.Tech./ M.E./PhD courses in IIT, IISER, IISc
and other reputed Indian institutes.
There is no minimum pass percentage in the qualifying degree while applying for GATE
exam. But you should have minimum educational qualification to appear in this exam.
Entrance Exams for a Lecturer
CSIR NET Exam is conducted by NTA twice a year for those who want to make
their career in research field.
Only candidates with or pursuing their Science Stream Master’s degree are
eligible for the CSIR NET Exam.

SLET Exam:
SET (State Eligibility Test) is the state level eligibility test 2019. In all states in India
and also in certain colleges, the State Level Eligibility Test is administered in
English.
States have opted to administer their own test, i.e. Eligibility Study of State Level
(SLET) for lectureship only.
