Fourth Lecture
Pressure Control Valve:
They are used to control the pressure in part of the
pneumatic/hydraulic circuit.
 Pressure Regulating Valve
Pressure Limiting Valve
Pressure Sequence valve

Flow Control Valve:

These are used to control the rate of flow of the
fluid through the valve.
3/2 Pilot operated DCV with 5/2 indirect solenoid pilot
spring return operated DCV with manual
override and spring return
2/2 DCV:
Two ports
Two positions
Only used as an on off valve
Can be Controlled :
Manually
Mechanically
Pneumatically
Types of DCV:
Poppet valves
Spool valves
Rotary valves
POPPET VALVE:
In a poppet valve, simple discs, cones or balls are
used in conjunction with simple valve seats to
control flow.
2/2
DCV
2/2 DCV:
Two ports
Two positions
Only used as an on off valve
Can be Controlled :
Manually
Mechanically
Pneumatically
3/2 DCV:
A spring forces a ball against the valve
seat preventing the compressed air
from flowing from air connection 1 to
the working line 2

Actuation of the valve plunger causes

the ball to be forced away from the seat
In the actuated state, connection 1 and
2 are connected so the valve is
switched to flow

The actuation force required is

dependent on:

the supply pressure

spring force
the friction in the valve.
3/2 DCV :Disc Seat normally closed

Un-actuated actuated
Write the name of the valve and
describe its operation:
3/2 Pilot operated directional control
valve with spring return, normally
closed
3/2-way:
servo controlled Roller lever Valves
4/2 DCV:
Spool Valve:
Spool (or slide) valves are constructed with a
spool moving horizontally within the valve body.
Raised areas called 'lands' block or open ports to
give the required operation.
4/2 Spool Valve:
5/2 DCV:
 5/2 DCV has five ports
and two positions.

Primarily used as a
control element for the
control of the cylinders.

 Can be Controlled :
Manually
Mechanically
Pneumatically
Electrically
5/3 DCV:
Five working ports and three switching positions.
With these valves, double-acting cylinders can be stopped within the stroke
range.
If no signals are applied, the valve remains spring-centered in mid position.
4/2 DCV: Longitudinal flat slide
5/2 DCV: Suspended disc seat:
ROTARY VALVE:
Rotary valves consist of a rotating spool which
aligns with holes in the valve casing to give the
required operation.
4/3 ROTARY DCV
