Communication is essential to human being.
People communicate anywhere and in anytime
of the day. Today, people have a wider platform
for communication since the internet has

Because of this, most of people are prone to
studying different languages in order to polish
their communication skills especially in the
usage of the English language.
 According to studies, twenty per cent (20%) of
the world's population are speaking in English.
Moreover, there are eighty per cent (80%) of
academic journals written in English and eighty
five per cent (85%) of organizations and
institutions are using English as their means of
communication. There is underlying fact that
English language has already a part of our day
to day lives.
 Beginners learn the basic of the English
language while adults learn a far more
comprehensive English subject which is the

This activity aimed to determine why should
English language be used as a mean of
communication in the workplace. English for
academic purposes is designed for individuals
aiming to be professionals. Through this activity,
learners would take a peek about what is it like,
what certain qualities must be developed and
how to actually become a better professional in
the future.
The Interviewee
 A 48 year old professional
 Grew up in Dumaguete City in Negros Island
Ms.  Earned a degree of Bachelor of Science in
Nursing at St. Michael’s College of Laguna at
Aileen Biñan City
 She practiced her profession on public and
Grace private service in terms of medicals.
 Currently renders 25 years on her chosen
Herbosa profession.
 . She is currently one of the non-teaching
personnel at City College of Calamba.
Summary
 As the scholars conduct the interview, Ms. Aileen said
that she started harnessing English from her birthplace
in Iloilo City. They do not speak Filipino and they often
speak English in Visayas and their dialect.
 She stated that it want their kids to grow knowing
English language really well.
 As Filipinos, they unconsciously speak Filipino and
English at the same time because some of them are
comfortable using both languages.
 But in the case of our interviewee, she specified that, as
a nurse, the language to be used depends on what class
is the patient belongs. She uses Filipino in some
patients for them to understand more of the situation
and vice versa.
 English language helps them with their profession like
some nurses are in demand in other countries. Most
probably that some local nurses will be applying for
that particular job and one requirement for them to
qualify is to be proficient and fluent in English
language. Practicing to speak fluently in English really
needs a lot of time. Individuals who have better
comprehension and usage of English language will
have more chance to be successful internationally
because they demand them to use English language in
their workplace.
Conclusion
 It is easier to communicate in English because it is the
universal language
 People starts to learn using and speaking English in
their homes, parents teaches their children to speak
basic and simple English words and/or sentences.
 The language to be used depends on the person you
are talking to and the situation.
 English language helps them with their chosen
profession.
 Practicing to speak fluently in English really needs a lot of
time.
 Everyone can express themselves in any medium of
language that they want but practicing it to express in
English language will improve self-confidence.
 English language helps everyone especially those
students who will be in the corporate world
