1966 as a polyester firm. Dhirubhai started the equity cult in
India. Reliance later entered into financial services, petroleum
refining, power sector. By 2002 Reliance had grown into a $15
billion conglomerate. After the death of Dhirubhai Ambani on
July 6, 2002, Reliance was headed by his sons. The group was
formed after the two feuding brothers Mukesh Ambani and Anil
Ambani, split Reliance Industrias.
Anil Ambani got the responsibility of Reliance Infocomm,
Reliance Energy, Reliance Capital and RNRL. This led to a new
beginning called RELIANCE. Later this group entered the power
sector through Reliance Power, and the entertainment sector
by acquiring Adlabs.
Profile
Younger Ambani brother was poorer by $2.6 billion, continuing a
three-year decline in his fortune. He's reportedly negotiating to
lease his telecom towers with brother Mukesh's Reliance
Industries, a deal that is likely to help Reliance Communications,
his debt-laden telecom unit. He's partnering China's Dalian
Wanda Group in a property venture. He recently sold shares in
Reliance Power to bring down holding as per a regulatory
requirement. Reliance Capital concluded the sale of a 26% stake
in its asset management arm to Japan's Nippon Life for $275
million in August. Group's entertainment arm Reliance
MediaWorks bought 30% stake in Digital Domain, a Hollywood
special effects firm owned by film maker James Cameron, at a
bankruptcy auction in September. His Reliance-DreamWorks
Studios' Jv with Steven Spielberg got 2 Academy Awards for their
film Lincoln. In January, he co-hosted a party at Mukesh's sky
palace in Mumbai for their niece's wedding.
Career
Ambani joined Reliance Industries, the company founded by his late
father Dhirubhai Ambani, in 1983 as Co-Chief Executive Officer and is credited
with having pioneered many financial innovations in the Indian capital
markets.[citation needed] For example, he led India's first forays into overseas capital
markets with international public offerings of global depositary receipts,
convertibles and bonds. He directed Reliance in its efforts to raise, since 1991,
around US$2 billion from overseas financial markets; with a 100-year Yankee
bond issue in January 1997 being the high point, after which people regarded
him as a financial wizard[citation needed]. He along with his brother, Mukesh Ambani,
has steered the Reliance Group to its current status as India's leading textiles,
petroleum, petrochemicals, power, and telecom company.([citation needed])[citation
needed] He is a close friend of movie star Amitabh Bachchan and Subrata Roy.

One of his major achievements in the entertainment industry is the takeover


of Adlabs, the movie production to distribution to multiplex company that owns
India's only dome theatre and the recently announced joint venture worth US$
825 million with Steven Spielberg.[citation needed]
He has been embroiled in a dispute with his brother, Mukesh Ambani, over the
supply of gas from the latter's KG basin.[citation needed]
He recently topped Business Sheet's "world's biggest loser" list of business
leaders who lost money in the late 2000s recession,[6]losing $32.5 billion in
2008, which brought him out of the top ten list to number 34 in 2009.
Endeavors
1) In 1983, Anil Ambani joined Reliance, a conglomerate company
founded by his late father, as the Co-Chief Executive Officer. He has also
pioneered in initiating many financial innovations in the Indian capital
market, some of which were leading India's first forays into overseas
capital markets with international public offerings of global depositary
receipts, convertibles and bonds.

2) Under his leadership Reliance has been raising around US$2 billion from
the overseas financial markets, since 1991.

3) The 100-year Yankee bond was launched under his leadership. The two
Ambani brothers took Reliance Group to great heights and due to their effort
and intelligence it enjoys its current status as India's leading textiles,
petroleum, petrochemicals, power and telecommunication company.

4) Anil Ambani was also elected as the Independent Member of the Rajya
Sabha- Upper Sabha, Parliament of India with the support of the Samajwadi
Party, in June 2004.
The Beginning

It all started when Anil Ambani was said to be embroiled in a


dispute with his brother, Mukesh Ambani, over the supply of
gas which led to the split of the Reliance Group and after
which Anil Ambani founded the “Anil Dhirubhai Ambani
Group”. Anil Ambani is the Chairman of Reliance
Communications, Reliance Capital, Reliance Energy, and
Reliance Natural Resources Limited.

Conjugal Relationship

Anil Ambani is married to Indian Bollywood Actress, Tina


Munim and has two sons, Anmol and Anshul. Tina Ambani,
wife of this powerful scion of the Corporate India, is also the
Managing Director of Reliance Industries. She has worked in
the film industry for about 10 years.
