Scope of the study

The leading cancer sites in Chennai among the female were breast (26.1%) and in

the states of TamilNadu are affected through by (47%) and the mortality rate in

TamilNadu is 35.7 per 100,000 in the year of 2010. And the situation was tackled by

the TamilNadu Health system in 2005 by Rs 597.15 crore financial support received

from the World Bank for treatment .

With keeping this view, marching towards the sustainable health, searching for the

nutritional food, the present study is intended to assess the medicinal properties of

traditional pigmented rice varieties of Tamil Nadu and evaluating anti-breast

cancer properties.
Objectives

This investigation is carried out with following objectives,

To collect pigmented rice varieties from Musiri, Ariyalur and

Thiruthuraipoondi
To study the physiochemical properties and estimate the nutritional
values
To evaluate phytochemicals and profiling bioactive compounds in the
samples by GC- MS analysis
To assess antioxidant activity of the samples by DPPH method
To examine the effect of medicinal rice on anti-breast cancer by in vivo
method
Karuppu kavuni Rice

“American Chemical Society (ACS) says, one spoonful of Black rice contains
more anthocyanin antioxidant than a spoonful of Blue Berries”

Conclusion

 The moisture content found in the present study is well within safe limits
and high percent carbohydrates content of the rice varieties signifies high
level of starch and its show that rice is a good source of energy .
 The rice protein is superior because of its unique composition of
essential amino acids. The highest amount of protein was found in Brown
Rice.
 This work has revealed that the Traditional rice contains some
properties to cure the breast cancer cell without any side effects .
 Due to the natural Antioxidant and Nutritional properties we don’t
want to add any artificial supplements to the diet
 Hence, the present study is intended to investigate the nutrients,
phytochemicals of pigmented traditional rice varieties of Tamil Nadu and
find a sustainable solution for Breast cancer for young women generations
towards smart health management. It works with underlining principle,”
Food as a Medicine ˝ .
