EVIDENCE BASED MEDICINE (EBM)
The conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best
evidence in making decisions about the care ofindividual patients

SEDERHANANYA
Memisahkan mana terapi yang :
- Bermanfaat positif
- Belum jelas manfaatnya
- Merugikan (do more harm than good)
Berdasarkan pengetahuan terkini, secara tegas dan
bijaksana
MENGAPA BUTUH EBM ?
Begitu banyak jurnal, terlalu sedikitwaktu
Sehingga….

- Jeda antara suatu penelitian hingga menjadi praktik sehari hari

- Tidak semua hasil “positif” dalam penelitian  positifuntuk
pasien ? (bagaimana bisa?)
Banyak jurnal, sedikit waktu

Tidak sempat mengkaji satu per satu dari ribuan jurnal dalam satuhari!
 a) Mencari yang paling sesuai ; b) Menggunakan jurnal yang paling
berkualitas; c) lakukan critical-appraisal  VIA (Valid, Important, Applicable)
Tidak semua jurnal berkualitas sama!
Least Bias  Most bias
1. Meta analysis & Systematic Review of RCTs
2. RCT(Randomized Controlled Trial)
3. Cohort Study
4. Case ControlStudy
5. Cross-sectional Study
6. Case Report
7. Expert opinion
Let’s go deep….
Meta Analysis
- Make new statistical analysis from RCTsto formulatea
summary
- Best of the best, least bias, especially from Cochrane

Systematic Review
- Make review and summary from others research
- No statistical analysis
- Best if there is no meta analysisavailable
Let’s go deep….(2)
RCT (Randomized Controlled Trial)
- Experimental study
- Intervention with randomallocation
- It’s mean that all subject have same chance to be
treated or not treated
Eg: ?
Let’s go deep….(3)
Cohort Study
- Observational study
- Interventions are not randomly allocated
- Outcome determined after intervention/ exposure
- Usually called prospective study
Let’s go deep….(4)
Case Control Study
- Observational study
- Interventions are not randomly allocated
- Outcome determined before intervention/ exposure
- Usually called retrospective study
Let’s go deep….(5)
Cross Sectional Study
- Observational study
- Interventions are not randomly allocated
- Outcome determined at the same timewith
intervention/ exposure
- Like a snapshot

Case report & Expert Opinion  how aboutthis?
