DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION 8
Activity
Divide the class into 6 groups, each
group will be given 10 minutes to discuss
on practical ways of coping with
geological hazards and another 10
minutes for the presentation of their role
play.

Analysis
QUESTIONS:
How did you find the activity?
What relevant information, you
learned from the demonstration?
Why is it important to know the
hazards that can be brought about by
Geological events?

PRACTICAL WAYS- Earthquake
A. Before an Earthquake:
Develop a disaster plan.
Determine the “safe places” in
your house. A safe place could
be under a sturdy table or
against an interior wall away
from windows or tall furniture.

ground, take cover under a sturdy
thing like a table, and hold on until the
earthquake stops.

PRACTICAL WAYS- Landslides
A. Before a Landslide
Have your parents ask
for a ground assessment
of your property.
Know the patterns of
storm-water drainage
near your home.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION 34
PRACTICAL WAYS- Landslides
Learn about the emergency
response and evacuation plans for
your area during a landslide.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION 35
PRACTICAL WAYS- Landslides
B. During a Landslide
Stay alert and awake. Many landslide
fatalities occur when people are
sleeping.
Stay away from the path of any
landslide hazards.
If caught in a rock fall and escape is
not possible, roll into a ball to protect
your head.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION 36
PRACTICAL WAYS- Landslides
C. After a Landslide
Stay away from the landslide area.
Listen to local radio for the latest
emergency information.
Check for injured or trapped persons near
the landslide, without entering the area.
Replant the damaged ground as soon as
possible to avoid landslides in the future.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION 37
Application
Explore!
Group the class into five and ask each
group to come up with a campaign material
for students of the school. The campaign
material must:
• a. contain information on the potential
danger of earthquake hazards within the
school;
• b. be a brochure, poster, or a Powerpoint
presentation;
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION 38
Assessment
Essay:
Suppose you are enjoying your summer
vacation at the beach suddenly, you felt the
ground moving because of an earthquake.
What should you do?
What are the scenarios that may happen
during and after the earthquake?
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION 39
Assignment
Work it out individually!...
• Get the map of your barangay or
municipality and identify the possible
hazards that may occur in your area
in the case of certain geological
events. How will you prepare for
these events?
