The importance of empowering women for the overall


upliftment of the nation
HELEN BOADEN

 Helen Boaden (born 1 March 1956) is a British


broadcasting executive who spent more than 30 years
working for the BBC until it was announced in late
September 2016 that she would be leaving the BBC in March
2017.[2]
J K ROWLING

 The author of the Harry Potter fantasy series. The books have
gained worldwide attention, won multiple awards, and sold
more than 400 million copies.[1] They have become the best-
selling book series in history[2]
MARY KOM
 Olympic Indian boxer hailing from the tribe in Manipur. She is a
five-timeWorld Amateur Boxing champion, and the only woman
boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world
championships Nicknamed "Magnificent Mary", she is the only
Indian woman boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer
Olympics, competing in the flyweight (51 kg) category and
winning the bronze medal. She has also been ranked as No. 4 AIBA
World Women's Ranking Flyweight category. She became the first
Indian woman boxer to get a Gold Medal in the Asian Games in
2014 in Incheon, South Korea. On 26 April 2016, she was
nominated by the President of India as a member of the Rajya
Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. In March 2017,
the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India,
appointed Mary Kom along with Akhil Kumar as national
observers for boxing.
SMITHA PATIL

Smita Patil (17 October 1955 – 13 December 1986) was


an Indian actress of film, television and theatre. Regarded
among the finest stage and film actresses of her times,Patil
appeared in over 80 Hindi and Marathi films in a career that
spanned just over a decade. During her career, she received
two National Film Awards and a Filmfare Award. She was the
recipient of the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian
honour in 1985.

Homes
They are wives, mothers, cooks, nurses, administrators,
scientists, leaders , military officers , astronauts, actors and
many more.
 Cook food
 Serve food to their husband and children
 Wash dishes and clothes
 Iron their clothes
 Get them ready for school or office
 Sweep and swab the floor
 Keep the surroundings clean.Besides doing all these things
employed women do a lot of things related to their works
Challenges Faced by Women
 Gender bias (sexual discrimination)
 Dowry system
 Sexual harassment
 Sex discrimination in work places
 Lack of education
 Early marriage
 Female foeticide and infanticide
 Unequal payments for labours
 Domestic violences
 Sexual crimes and atrocities
 Marginalised and neglected
 Victmised
How to meet these Challenges
1.Women Education
Awareness of daughter’s education is essential. It is said
that “educated mothers educate family which results in
educated population of a nation which builds strong nation”
2 Change the approach towards women based on sex
discrimination
3 Child bearing at young ages should be prevented by
preventing early marriages.
4 Eliminating all forms of discrimination in employment
especially to eliminate wage differentials between men and
women
5. Women reservation in education and in politics
6 Women Scholarships
7 Training in self defending programmes
8 Appointment in all types of jobes
9 Sakhi and other such women empowerment
programmes
10 Women laws such as Sati Act, Dowry Act, Domestic
Violence Act etc.
The Government of India declared 2001 as the year of
Women Empowerment
Empowerment needs to be operated at
different levels

 FAMILIAL – Make independent decisions in the family, avoid
domestic violence and relationship battle among family
members
 ECONOMIC - Poverty eradication, Women and economy,
women and agriculture
 SOCIAL – Education, health, nutrition, rights of the girl
child
 POLITICAL – Gain political power and execute political
responsibilities
 PSYCHOLOGICAL – Face situations with confidence
 Empowerment enables women to acquire knowledge, skills
and techniques which will help them in their personal and
social growth as well as foster in them sensitivity
towards problems in the society.Special efforts are required
to be taken for education, health and employment of
women.
