ABSTRACT:
The design of wind turbine blade for low wind
speed area is historically experimented by many researchers
and give us different results with nearly same parameters. Also
augmentation of wind turbine improves power generation
capacity in magnified manner. This paper deals with the
fabrication of and investigation of augmented wind turbine
specially prepared with helical flow path. The experimentation
is done with combination of different parameters such as wind
speed, Pitch distance and angle of attack of wind flow.
INTRODUCTION

 A Wind Turbine is a device that converts the wind kinetic

energy into electrical energy.
 Wind turbine vary vastly in size, Shape and orientation.
 Wind power was probably used in Persia(present day Iran)
about 500-900AD . The first known practical wind power
plant were build in Sistan, an Eastern province of Iran.
 These “Panemone” were vertical axle wind mills, which had
long vertical drive shaft with rectangle blade.
 wind power 1st appeared in Europe during the middle ages The
1st historical records of their use in England date to the 11th or
12th centuries.
 An average on shore wind turbine with a capacity of 2.5-3MV
can produce more than 6 million KWh in a year.
 The ducted wind turbine was first introduced by Lilley and
Rainbird with the earliest experimental research performed by
Foremen et al.
Existing system:
 Ducted wind turbines(DWT’s), in comparison to open turbines
increase the power obtained by a fixed sized rotor by
increasing the momentum through the rotor.
 The simple duct was kept to increase the velocity of the wind

Proposed system:
 The helical flow path in an augmented wind turbine we
introduce a helical flow path in an turbine.
 The helical flow path thus increases the momentum of a blade
and increases the swirl of the flow.
ADVNTAGE OF PROPOSED SYSTEM:
 The swirl path increases the vortex of the wind.
 The vortex increase the turbulence it is possible to increase the
power.
 Thus this system helps in production of renewable energy.
APPLICATIONS:
 Reduces the cost than the normal horizontal wind turbine.
 It can be easily placed on the roof of homes.
 It reduced the electricity bills.
MEATHODOLOGY:
WIND TURBINE DUCT MODEL & PARAMETER:
 The designing of duct and manufacturing convergent duct,
a duct has been designed using CATIA and fabricated using
composite material and epoxy resin.
 A model of a duct is designed in CATIA and analyzed in
ANSYS how the velocity of the air is increased is calculated
using software and done experimentally.
 Designing the model and analyzing helps us how
effectively our design will be in real time process, thus
increase our model efficiency.

Airfoil selection:
Initially some assumptions such as tip
ratio, Number of Blades, Airfoil, etc. SG604X series
airfoil has been selected.

Generator Specifications:
 RPM: 300-3000,
 AMP: 4amp,
 VOLTAGE: 24V,
 POWER: 140Watts,
 TORQUE: Low Torque.
FLOW ANALYSIS:
 Thus the above flow analysis shows how the velocity of the
wind increases from its initial value.
 The velocity has been increased while implementing a ducted
convergent nozzle design in a turbine.
 This helps in increasing the efficiency of the turbine over the
available wind energy effectively.
 Adding a helical path it increases the swirl of the wind thus ot
increases the RPM of the shaft.
SCOPE:
 Cuts off the electricity bills.
 Easy design.
 low cost.
 Reduces man power.
 Low maintenance cost.
 Easy mounted in the roofs of the buildings.
