Non-coal Mines’
What is an accident?

An unplanned, unwanted
and undesired event
occurring through a
sequence of events that
may lead to an
undesirable
consequence.
Some Important Definitions Related to
Accidents
Injury : May be loss of body parts or death of a particular person.
Minor injury : An injury because of which there is an enforced absence of
any person from duty for more than 24 hours and less than 72 hours.

Reportable injury : An injury because of which there is an enforced


absence of any person from duty for more than 72 hours.
Serious injury : An injury which involves permanent loss of any part of the
body or permanent loss of sight or hearing or fractures to bones or joints
or any permanent physical capacitance.
Fatal injury : An injury which involves death of a person.

Major accident : In mining conditions, when the number of deaths lies


between 3 and 10, then it is called a major accident.

Disaster : If there is a death of 10 or more persons in an accident.


What causes an Accident?

categories:
 Unsafe Acts: The acts of the workers,

having proper PPEs, Crossing barricades,

 Natural Causes: Accidents caused due
to natural calamities and includes
earthquakes, floods, Tsunamis etc.
