Lanzones
(Lansium domesticum)
Summary

Lanzones is prominent in South East Asia and grown in ultra-tropical climate.

According to the PSA in the year 2010: out of 16 regions, CALABARZON is next
to ARMM with the most area planted, number of bearing trees and volume of
production of lanzones, while Ilocos Region having the least.
REGION ISLAND GROUP Area Planted (ha) No. of Bearing Volume of
Trees Production
ARMM Mindanao 5,433 693,521 25,277.80

CALABARZON Luzon 4,321 492, 226 1,006.72

West Visayas Visayas 486 41, 302 546.90

Ilocos Region Luzon 7.8 183 1.26

Antimicrobial agents are in the most controversial status at present. As

antimicrobial resistance develops, the use of these agents are strictly monitored. In
line with this, the discovery of natural alternatives will be of big contribution to
these matters.
Lanzones
Summary
In the studies collected, Ragasa (2006) obtained Lanzones fruits from Laguna and used the
following solvents for extraction of the triterpenoids from the fruit peel: dichloromethane, acetone, ethyl
acetate, and petroleum ether. Marfori et.al. (2014) also obtained the Lansones fruits from Laguna but used
different solvents for extraction: methanol, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. Mavanti et. al. (2011) study
on the seed and bark’s anti-feedig activity by utilizing solvents such as: methanol/n-hexane and
methanol/ethyl acetate respectively.

Terpenoids present from different parts of Lanzones tree according to different studies
These studies utilized different anti-microbial assays such as: bioautography detection in TLC,
microbiological dilution anti-microbial assay, and disc-diffusion methods. Different controls are used as
well for the different studies: tetracycline, cyclohexamide, chloramphenicol, chlotrimazole, using also
different microorganisms.
Lanzones
Summary

RESULTS:

Ragasa (2006) concluded that α,γ-onoceradienedione has the same activity as

the standard antibiotic, chloramphenicol against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
The rest of the triterpenes have moderate activities against P. Aeruginosa,
while lansioside C has moderate activity against Bacillus subtilis. All the
compounds have moderate antifungal activity against Candida albicans
and Aspergillus niger.

Marfori (2014) studied that triterpene, Lansioside D, was established a

pronounced activity against Gram-positive bacteria, with an MIC of 31.25
and 15.62 microgram/mL for Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis
respectively. It was moderately active against Gram-negative Escherichia
coli and not active against yeasts and moulds.
