What did you discover
between the
relationship of
products and its
factors?
– Factoring - process of finding the factors of an
expression, which is the reverse of multiplication.
– Prime Number - a number greater than 1 which
has only two positive factors: 1 and itself.
– Polynomial - an expression of more than two
algebraic terms, especially the sum of several
terms that contain different powers of the same
variable(s).
Types of Factoring
STEPS:
1. Find the GCF of the numerical coefficient.
2. Find the variable with the least exponent that appears
in each term of the polynomial.
3. The product of the greatest common factor in (1) and
(2) is the GCF in the polynomial.
4. To completely factor the given polynomial, divide the
polynomial by its GCF, the resulting quotient is the
other factor.
