INTRODUCTION
Heartbeat sensor
 A heart rate monitor is a personal monitoring device that allows one to
measure one's heart rate in real time or record the heart rate for later study

 Stethoscope and Electrocardiogram are the common apparatus to measure

heart beats

 Arduino based heart rate monitoring is simply measured by placing the

thumb over the subject’s arterial pulsation
OBJECTIVE
Objective
 To study about the electric and electronic component on
building the heart beat monitoring devices
 To identify a function of Arduino associated with electronic
component as well as the coding
 To measure the heartbeat by using heartbeat sensor and
programmed by Arduino.
 The heart shape blinks that according to our heartbeat and
heart rate will be displayed on LCD.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Problem statement
 To find heartbeat by using sensor and programmed by arduino.

 The heartbeat sensor have to work properly and a heartbeat can be displayed
by the LCD. The programmed work by placing our thumb and a heart shape will
be displayed on the LED Matrix and it will blink according to our heartbeat.

 The sensor will measure our pulse according to our blood vessel.

 The heartbeat sensor was design to show a heart rate of a person by using a
thumbprint.

 The advantage of this heartbeat sensor it can show a heart rate of a person by
display on lcd and it also show a heart shape of a person heart rate by led
blink.
APPARATUS
Apparatus

 Arduino Uno

 Heartbeat sensor

 LCD display (16X2)

 Breadboard

 220 ohm resistors

 8X8 LCD matrix

PROCEDURE
Procedure
 1. First, in order to display the heart beat readings in bpm, 16 x 2 LCD
display was connected to the Arduino UNO.

 2. The 4 data pins of the LCD module (D4, D5, D6 and D7) were connected
to the pins of the Arduino UNO. Also, a 10k ohm potentiometer was
connected to pin 3 of LCD (contrast adjust pin). The RS and E (pins 3and 5)
of the LCD also were connected to pins of the Arduino UNO.

 3. Next, the output of the heartbeat sensor module was connected to the
analog input pin of Arduino.

 4. The code was uploaded to Arduino UNO and Power on the system. The
Arduino asks us to place our finger in the sensor and press the switch.
 5. Any finger (except the Thumb) was placed on the sensor clip
and push the switch (button). Based on the data from the sensor,
Arduino calculates the heart rate and displays the heartbeat in
bpm.

 6. While the sensor is collecting the data, sit down and relax and
do not shake the wire as it might result in a faulty values.

 7. After the result is displayed on the LCD, if you want to

perform another test, just push the rest button on the Arduino
and the procedure number five until eight were repeated
RESULT
Figure A shows that the circuit without
putting a finger on it.
Figure B shows the lights up of 8x8 LED
Matrix indicates the presence of heartbeat.
Figure C shows the reading of heartbeat
after putting a finger to the sensor

DISCUSSION
Discussion
 The module uses an infrared led (IR) and a photo transistor to
detect the pulse of the finger.
 Whenever a pulse is detected, red led and heart shape on 8x8
metrix LCD flashes according to the heartbeat.
 The pulse sensor is used in this monitoring system is a plug and
play heart rate sensor.
 It only just place the finger on top of the sensor and it will sense
the heartbeat by measuring the change in light from the
expansion of capillary blood vessels.
 By doing so, the heart rate will also appear on the LCD which
state of heartbeat rate.
