PREWAR MODERN INFLUENCE

-Modern architecture of the Philippines began with


the ff. Architects like their forebears of Neo-Classic were
product of foreign education.
-The introduction of Modern design of these
architects marked the liberation from Neo-Classic. It has
clean lines and bold masses, use of cantilever, the
thoughtful Adaptation
1. Andres Luna de San Pedro- from 1920 to 1924 he was chief
architect of the city of Manila. The designs of Luna de
San. Many of his modernist buildings are lost in the Second
World War. Luna de San Pedro gave in addition to his work
as an architect also taught at the University and was also
president of the Philippine Institute of Architects. In 1949,
he was awarded the Gold Medal of Merit as the first
architect of the Philippine Institute of Architects (PIA).

2. Juan Nakpil- was a Filipino architect, teacher and a community
leader. In 1973, he was named one of the National Artists for
architecture, and tapped as the Dean of Filipino Architects.

3. Fernando Ocampo - One of Manilas renowned architects, His
talents in both Civil Engineering and Architecture are manifested
in his long lasting works.

4. Pablo Antonio - was a Filipino architect. A pioneer of
modern Philippine architecture, he was recognized in some
quarters as the foremost Filipino modernist architect of his
time. He was conferred the rank and title of National Artist
of the Philippines by President Ferdinand Marcos in 1976.
