variety of topics related to HIM.
Those eligible: Associate, Bachelor, or Graduate level students
Posters judged by 3 separate judges
Winner in each category receives a prize and recognition in the
March OHIMA e-newsletter
Contestants need to be available for questions
Goal Statement
To design and submit a research poster for the 2017 OHIMA Annual Meeting
showcasing research skills over topics related to Health Information
Management by the deadline of March 20, 2017.
By displaying research on the future development of Health Information
Management in areas such as technological advancements, HIM role and
departmental changes, and future educational requirements, the poster
submitted will compete in the Associate category for a chance to win a
prize and recognition in the March OHIMA e-newsletter.
Project Scope
Research topics can include a variety of different areas related to Health

Information Management including, confidentiality, privacy, security,
information governance, health information technologies, health
informatics, healthcare leadership and innovation, and consumer
engagement. All research will be displayed on a professionally printed
poster and submitted no later than March 20, 2017 at 8:00am. Posters will
be displayed from March 20th through March 22nd and scored by three
separate judges. The highest scoring poster will receive a prize and
recognition in the March OHIMA e-newsletter. Judges will consist of an
OHIMA Board Member, HIM Educator, and an HIM Professional currently in
the field.
Project Scope
Boundaries of the project included:
Posters should be no larger than 48 x 42
Graphics are required and can include clip art, photographs, drawings,
graphs, etc.
Title should be clearly visible from 5 feet away
Suggested starting point for all other font is 30-35 point
No spelling or grammatical errors
All resources used for the project should be listed in a reference section,
preferably in APA format
Those eligible to be included consist of any Associate, Bachelor or
Graduate level current student or any student who has graduated within
the last year from a CAHIIM accredited program
Deliverables
By the end of week three, a 24 x 36 semi-gloss poster in landscape

orientation will be printed by a local printing company and mailed to
Lauren Manson. The poster will be mounted displaying research on what to
expect from Health Information Management in the future. Questioning on
content of posters will be held between 11:30am 12:45pm on Tuesday,
March 21st.

Project will be saved on a flash drive that could be lost, malfunction, or
become damaged.
Poster will be mailed to Ohio creating a risk that it could be lost along
the way or sent to the wrong address and not make it to the destination
by the submission deadline.
Local printing company hardware may malfunction causing the poster to
print distorted, off-centered, and/or blurred.
Printing company could be behind on projects taking longer than
expected to print the poster.
Scanner could malfunction, resulting in certain graphics from being
included with the research documentation.

Summary of Results
The research poster was submitted within all required deadlines and judged
from March 20, 2017 March 22, 2017. All OHIMA requirements and
guidelines were followed and the research documentation was printed on a
24 x 36 poster. The research topic chosen for this project dealt with the
future of Health Information Management and what we can expect in the
years to come.
Overall, the poster project was a success winning the first place prize in the
Associate category and will be recognized in OHIMAs March e-newsletter.
