1. HOLD is a Christian community with distinctive

beliefs, values and patterns of life
a) Of course, our basic Christian beliefs and values are those held in
common by all orthodox Christians.
Beliefs: Jesus is Lord, life after death, etc.
Values: What we consider desirable, e.g., loyalty, dependability, dignity of life, etc.
b) In addition, we stress the importance of marriage and family life.

2. Our "statement of mission" provides our direction

and the rationale for our existence.
The Handmaid of the Lord is a creation of God distinctly called to the mission of
personal transformation, evangelization to bring other women to a renewed life
in the Lord and wholehearted service to bring glad tidings to the poor.

3. Our "statement of philosophy" contains the

beliefs and ideals of HOLD, which govern our
thrust and mission.
WE BELIEVE that God creates every human being in His image, thus we women have personal
worth and dignity. As such, we are to reflect His divine image in all our thoughts, words, actions
and relationships.
WE BELIEVE in the family as the basic unit of Gods Kingdom where human life begins and is
nurtured; hence the need to protect and prepare it to face the changes and challenges
confronting it.
WE BELIEVE that as Handmaids of the Lord, God has called us to be holy women; thus
We commit ourselves to be Christ-like by being prayerful, studying and living out Gods
word.
We commit to God and neighbor our humble and selfless service, to strive with all our
hearts and strength to bring the Lords love and light to others.
We can fulfill this call by inviting Jesus to be the Lord of all areas of our lives and allowing the Holy
Spirit to lead and empower us to live the life He called us into.
