Evolution
Print Media
- In the 19th centuries, the most dominant form is Print media
which include newspapers, magazines, and books.
The Federalist Papers was one of the first print media. It
was published to promote the ratification of the Constitution.
- The invention of telegraph revolutionized print media. It made
it possible for newspapers to receive news from all over the
world.

Evolution
Broadcast Media
Broadcast medias range from radio, TV ,and Internet.
In the 1920s, several manufacturers decided to mass-produce
radio receivers for sale to the general public. As an incentive
for people to buy radios, these same manufacturers created
radio stations. That's why, for example, General Electric owns
NBC.

Evolution
The Purpose of Media
The purpose of Media initially was for politics only, from

newspapers to radio. It wasnt until recent times that media

like tv and internet offer people as a option of entertainment.
In some countries like US, media companies are owned by
cooperation (economic agenda) while in some other countries
like China, there are government owned media (politic
agenda).

The Impacts of Media on the

Society
Productivity is not the only thing that modern media brings to

human. Media post great impacts on many different aspects

of peoples life
Adolescents aged from 16 to 19 are greatly influenced by
media on their body image. Medical staff plays a critical role
on educating and helping them to develop healthy body
images.

The Impacts of Media on the

Society
Besides body image, media like tv greatly influence peoples

occupational aspiration while playing a huge role for people in

making their vocational decisions.
Without media, issues like same-sex marriage, racial
segregation could still remain unsolvable, however, modern
media is not necessarily making a huge progress. One study
demonstrates that over 3000 New Zealand commercials
being studied, the majority of the racial minorities are still
portrayed as their stereotypes.

FunctionalistTheory
Due to medias great influence on people from occupational

aspiration to body image, media can be manipulated to fulfill

societal need by shaping peoples mind. Television programs
are able to draw peoples to certain issues like racial profiling
or the significance of education. By raising peoples
awareness, media, as one of the most important social
institution are able to work harmoniously with the education
system, politics etc

Conflict Theory
As previously mentioned, media in America is owned by cooperation.
Those top one percent are able to influence the whole country by
media manipulation. Thus, they can easily profit from it. A great
example could be the rise of fast fashion industry. Beside body
image, media like tv and internet also create fashion trend.
Fashion are redefined everyday through the different outfits worn by
celebrities. As a result, consumers are compelled to follow the trend
and buy more outfits. While people are educated to work hard since
childhood, media at the same time compel adult to spend harder.
