New York Knickerbockers were founded in
1845 as the first team to play baseball using
modern rules
This team created the official rules used
today - known as the Knickerbocker rules.
Prior to the Knickerbocker rules, players were
allowed to put a runner out by throwing the

Lacrosse

History of Lacrosse
One of many stick ball games that has its origin in Native
American culture
Most information we know about early lacrosse comes from
the early Europeans arriving in the Americas. French and
English explores took notes on how the game was played as
early as the 1630s
Most data shows that the game was played in the Eastern
United States
Sticks varied between Native American Tribes: 2 shorter
sticks, 1 stick with a closed net the same size as the ball, and
sticks very similar to the widely used lacrosse stick of today
The word "lacrosse" is a generic term from the French
referring to a curved stick and ball

Lacrosse Materials
Stick: made of wood or
metal with a shaped net
pocket at the end
Ball: made of solid
rubber
Mouthpiece
Protective Gear:
Helmets, gloves, eye
ware, neck and/or chest
pads

Lacrosse Playing Field

The field is divided into

three equal sections
1. Defensive
2. Midfield
3. Offensive

The goals are nets located toward the center of each teams defensive
areas, with the surrounding area called the "crease". Play can happen
behind the goals

Players are spread throughout the playing field. 3 Defenders,

3 Middies, 3 attackers, and a goalie

Basic Lacrosse Rules

Men & Women's games are played differently
Objective: score more goals than your
opponent in 4 quarters (each 15 minutes). To
score a point you must throw the ball across
the goal line of the opponents goal
At the start of each quarter or after a goal,
play begins with a face off. Two players on
hands and knees with sticks on ground
horizontally
