Introduction
In meeting the stringent future emission regulations, especially in order to reduce or to
achieve the controlled emission such as the CO, particulate matter (PM) AND NOx,
different types of after-treatment devices or various technologies are being implemented
such as DPF (diesel particulate filter), DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst), EGR (exhaust gas
regulator) and SCR (selective catalytic reduction) are supposed to be used in diesel engines.
In addition to this, more efforts are been taken to improve diesel combustion efficiency
which is of much interest. In case of PM, study show that it could significantly be reduced
by the use of DOC and DPF. Whereas ,in case of NOx the effective after treatment devices
used for its reduction are EGR & SCR, but there still exists certain present obstacles that are
needed to be solved and are mostly related to regeneration strategies. However for the
proper application usage of such devices certain barriers exists that completely need to be
overcome and of all the most challenging obstacle is to maintain combustion efficiency that
is to be comparable to that of the conventional diesel combustion.
Problem Statement

For improving the performance characteristics, fuel spray, atomization and better fuel/air
mixing for diesel engines is needed to be explored in order to have improved oxygen
utilization, and for reducing the emissions. Its believed that they would be achieved while
ensuring by the adequate spray penetration for utilizing oxygen throughout the combustion
process.
