    SMART CARD

    Asmart card orintegrated circuit card(ICC) is any pocket-sized card with


    embeddedintegrated circuits. Smart cards are made of plastic, and may have
    many differentcontact padlayouts.

    Smart cards can provideidentification,authentication, data storage application


    processing, etc.. Smart cards may provide strong securityauthenticationwithin
    various organizations.

    Smart cards serve as credit orATMcards,fuel cards, mobile phoneSIMs,


    authorization cards for pay television, household utility pre-payment cards, highsecurity identification and access-control cards, andpublic transportand public
    phone payment cards.

    Smart cards may also be used aselectronic wallets. The smart card chip can be
    "loaded" with funds to pay parking meters, vending machines or merchants.
    Cryptographic protocolsprotect the exchange of money between the smart card
    and the machine. No connection to a bank is needed. The holder of the card may
    use it even if not the owner.
