Policy of Govt. of India in 1986-87.

 A generic scheme of export promotion has
been formulated and sub-divided under
three distinct segments as follows:- 
 Product Development,
 Publicity & Marketing,
 Social and other welfare measures.
 The design & technology aspects play a very important
part in marketing the handicrafts.
 It is necessary to promote the organizations involved in
export of handicrafts for development of new and
innovative items.
 They provide workshop and training programme in
packaging and training export procedures.
 Training of artists and designers.
 Selection of designers, artists for development of
prototypes for exports and invitation to foreign designers.
 Participation in International
fair(s)/exhibitions(s) abroad.
 Participation in buyers-sellers meet(s) in

India and abroad.


 Conducting market studies abroad.
 Deputation of crafts persons for live

demonstration during various fairs/foreign


exhibitions/Cultural exchange programme
agreed between India & other countries.
 Financial assistance for enforcement/welfare
measures for eradication of child labour.
 Welfare measures to resolve labour related or
other social problems being faced by
Handicrafts exporters.
 Financial assistance will be permissible for
registration of looms, labeling initiatives.

 Exports of Handicrafts have shown an decrease
of Rs.3276.09 , a decrease of 18.95% in rupees
term.
 In dollar terms, the exports  have shown the
decrease of US$ 330.12 millions.

 The membership of the Council rose from 35 in
Year 1985-86 to 6233 in 2008-09.

Development is set up in order to
• upgrade the dynamic designs and product
development
• to help the Indian handicrafts exporters and artisans
with the development of latest products and designs to
cope up with the changing needs of the international
trade.

a mammoth 97,000 sq. mts. exhibition area.
 1800 manufacturers & exporters loaded with top quality
merchandise.

 IHGF showcase the most extensive range of handcrafted

 The fair features giftware, kitchenware, decorative,
furniture, furnishings, tableware garden articles,
houseware and fashion accessories.

of the Council.
 The prospective members are required to

submit application as per the prescribed


application from which can be obtained by
paying Rs. 100/- in cash/demand draft
drawn in favour of EPCH payable at New
Delhi.
 Annual membership fee is 2500/-.

 The US is the largest buyer of Indian handicrafts and accounts for 32 per
cent of total handicraft exports, followed by the EU nations, which
account for 22 per cent of the exports.
 In 2007-08, UAE stood as the fourth largest importer of Indian handicraft
items accounting for 6 percent of India’s total exports of handicraft
goods. US on the other hand emerged as the largest market with 32
percent, followed by UK with 11 percent and Germany with 10 percent.
 The US is the largest buyer of Indian
handicrafts and accounts for 32 per cent of
total handicraft exports
 EU nations which account for 22 per cent of

the exports.
 In 2007-08, UAE stood as the fourth largest

importer of Indian handicraft items


accounting for 6 percent of India’s total
exports of handicraft goods.
 EPCH organized a handicrafts fair in Argentina
(Nov,2009).
 Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI)
is in the process of launching a special purpose
vehicle (SPV) in association with the Export
Promotion Council (EPC).(March,2009)
