Since 2006, FMA Summits has been producing high level

executive summits, one of which The Progressive

Manufacturing Summit engages VPs and Directors of
Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement,
Operations, etc. for manufacturing facilities across the
nation who work with FMA to learn how to better achieve
and surpass their strategic goals of increased
manufacturing efficiency, streamlined processes and
sustainability.
About FMA Summits
This presentation will feature 10 tips for streamlining and
focusing Lean Strategy for Manufacturing practices, that FMA
and its clients have worked together to deem most important in
moving forward.

These topics are the focus for our Delegates and outline the
various solutions that our Partner companies will exhibit and
present on at our upcoming Manufacturing Summit in Atlanta,
GA November 17
th

, 2014.
Introduction:
5S represents a strategy for organizing
the work area starting with:
Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize and Sustain.
The basic purpose of 5S is to implement
a roadmap for the elimination of waste
that results from poorly or inefficient
work areas.
5S
The Bottleneck Analysis
Bottleneck Analysis is used to identify
the weakest link in the manufacturing
process which limits the overall through
put and improve the performance for
that part.
Continuous Flow Manufacturing
Continuous flow Manufacturing
ensures that the work-in process
smoothly flows with minimal bumps
between the steps. It eliminates many
forms of waste like inventory, waiting
time etc.
HoshinKanri
HoshinKanri guarantees the goals of the
company; the middle management and
the work on the plant floor are
consistent and thorough. It removes
poor communication and inconsistent
direction.
Jidoka
Jidoka is a unique concept of partially
automating the manufacturing process
and to automatically stop when defects
are detected. It reduces labour costs as
few people can now monitor multiple
stations and quality issues are detected
Immediately.
Just-in-time
Just-in-time is focused on pulling parts
through production based on customer
demand instead of pushing parts
through production based on projected
demand. It works in sync with other lean
tools and is highly effective in reducing
inventory levels and improving cash
flows.
Kaizen
Kaizen works towards continuous
improvement by employing a strategy
where employees work together to
achieve step by step improvements in
the manufacturing process.
Overall Equipment Effectiveness
Overall Equipment Effectiveness is
effective in measuring the productivity
loss for a given manufacturing process.
These 3 categories of loss are
Availability, Performance and Quality.
SMART Goals
SMART Goals are the goals that
are: Specific, Measurable, Attainable,
Relevant, and Time-Specific. This helps in
tracking the effectiveness of the goals.
Value Stream Mapping
Value stream mapping is a tool that
maps the flow of production visually.
It shows the current and future state of
processes thereby underlining the scope
for improvement.
