Samsung High-Performance GDDR4 Graphics Memory

Samsungs GDDR4 is next-generation, JEDEC-standard graphics memory for the most advanced 3D applications.

Faster, Denser Memory for Advanced 3D Graphics Requirements

Three-dimensional graphics applications require advanced memory with exceptional performance. Samsungs GDDR4 memory delivers an ultra-fast peak bandwidth of 12.8GB/second, making it the fastest graphics memory in volume production today. Since just sixteen 512Mb Samsung components are needed to achieve a density of 1GB, OEMs are able to save power, space and cost for

their graphics board designs. Samsung GDDR4 memory is ideal for a broad array of products using high-end graphics from storage devices, digital televisions, set-top boxes and networking equipment to high-end computers, gaming systems, workstations and graphics cards.

Pushing the Limits

Samsung GDDR4 is a hyper-synchronous, double data rate DRAM, operating at clock speeds up to 1.6GHz and delivering data at speeds up to 3.2Gb/ second. These advanced GDDR4 chips are enabling leading graphics card suppliers to push the limits, providing an immersive experience for gamers and enthusiasts. As PC graphics features continue to expand rapidly for example, within Windows Vista advanced graphics memory makes possible the life-like images and speed that are helping fuel demand.

First to Market
Samsung has been first to introduce new graphics memory products to the industry for the past five years. For example, in early 07, Samsung began sampling a new 4Gb/second GDDR4 made using 80-nanometer technology whose data transfer speed is 66% faster than the fastest commercially available GDDR4.

customers to deliver the best products that enable 3D graphics. Samsung GDDR4 now offers workstation users, designers and other graphics-oriented users performance of 3200Mbps per pin, which represents an increase of more than 300% from GDDR2 and 400% more than GDDR. By using the most advanced graphics memory, OEMs enhance their competitive advantage by offering products that make possible incredibly life-like movements and richly textured imagery.

Windows Vista Graphics Requirements

The Vista OS has a new graphics-rich user interface that displays vector graphics rather than drawing the screen using bitmaps as in previous systems. According to experts, running Vista with all its features enabled will require a discrete graphics card optimally powered by GDDR4. A card with at least 256MB of RAM is needed to get the full visual effect, as well as utilize all the multimedia capabilities in the latest Vista PCs. For example, GDDR4 gives games the ultra-smooth movement in animation that enables a truly immersive user experience.

Hardware Technology Keeping Up with Market Demand

Fueled by strong demand for ever-higher-performance graphics, hardware technology is rapidly evolving, including the graphics memory needed to support advanced 3D graphics. For example, VPU memory bus widths have doubled every two years since 1997 However, Samsung has been meeting . the needs of the market through its commitment to push the technology envelope and work with its
