During the year we will explore the Women in History. Awards will be given out during the year for correct answers to questions found in the promotional materials or reports received. POW-MIA
Our Military fought for our freedom. Let us not forget those left behind. Be sure to have an event set up for the POW-MIA Recognition Day in September. The Missing Man would be a great way to promote this event during Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Special Meeting events to honor our Soldiers that have not made it home yet. The Table needs a white tablecloth, single serving plate, dinnerware, inverted glass, salt and wedge of lemon on a smaller plate, single red rose in a vase that is tied with a red ribbon and chair drape with a black cloth. Write your officials let them know we still want our soldiers to come home. There are still soldiers Missing in Action and Prisoners of War. Dont let them believe we have forgotten those that gave so much. Honor our Military War Dogs. These unsung heroes gave their lives to save many of our Military in several Wars. So many of these dogs were not allowed to come home and lost their lives while others are still serving this country. There are two War Dog Memorials; one at March Air Force Base, CA and the other at The Infantry School, Ft. Benning, GA. Californian Jeffery Bennett put the War Dog Memorial project together. Visits websites like www.war-dogs.com for ideas on how to honor these veterans as well. **Award to the first Chairman to send me a report on a Recognition Day Event by September 25th. (This can be Auxiliary or District event.)

July / August 2012-2013 Congratulations on being appointed the Patriotic Instructor. Several things are in your charge during this year. Check your Ritual/Bylaw book, program book, General Orders or School of Instruction materials to assist you during the year. They are wonderful tools to rely on. Contact me if you have any issues or questions that you would like help with. . Meeting Etiquette As Patriotic Instructor you must make sure the meeting room is set up properly. Have suggestions for the Good of the Order ready for the members. Refer to Understanding Auxiliary Traditions for questions on saluting, raps of the gavel, sacred areas on the floor and other traditions. Make sure that the flags are in their proper location during the meetings and that they are also properly stored when not in use. Set up a Missing Man table to honor POW/MIA veterans.
Just a Note on Flag Etiquette Saluting the Flag Individuals, except military, should hold their right hand over their heart. Those wearing hats should remove them. Military and Veterans should salute with their right hand flat and held to the brim of their hats. All should face the flag when it is raised, lowered, or passing by. Folding the Flag begins with a single triangular fold. Each fold there after is also triangular ending with the blue field showing and the edge being tucked tightly in the folds. There is a total of 13 folds. Welcome veterans with open arms, whether they are coming home or to a meeting. Fly flags in their honor. Assist them and families where you can. It can be hard for some to ask for help so offer it. Teach the youth flag etiquette, American Veteran History, and other patriotic items that can help them grow into proud Americans as it is our future they carry in their small hands. Care about your community. Work with businesses, city, and counties that need flags replaced. Volunteer at food pantries. American Pride in Generosity shows brotherly and sisterly love. Hear their voices when they speak. Just listening can be the biggest gift a person can offer at times.
