National Night Out Is August 7
Celebrate the 29th annual National Night Out against crime and drugs with your neighbors on Tuesday, August 7. From 5:30 to 9 pm, neighborhoods throughout Hopkins and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights, and spend the evening outside with neighbors. Many Hopkins neighborhoods will be hosting special eventsblock parties, cookouts, ice cream socials, potlucks, and games. Last year, 54 neighborhoods in Hopkins registered and took part in NNO! Register your party early and enjoy a visit from McGruff, Sparky, the Police Department, or the Fire Department. The Hopkins Raspberry Festival

The 78th annual Hopkins Raspberry Festival kicks off with the Hopkins Arts Festival (see box) on July 7 and will include events such as street dances, coronation of royalty, Family Day, and the Grande Day Parade on July 15. For a complete schedule, go to www.raspberrycapital.com. A few highlighted events: Senior Game Day Sunday, July 8, 3 pm @ Hopkins Activity Center Bingo, great prizes, and buffet included. Cost is $6 per person in advance with a Raspberry button. Call 952-939-1333 to register. Razz-Ma-Tazz Dance & Coronation Tuesday, July 10, 7 pm @ Hopkins Activity Center Raspberry Festival Senior Royalty Trudy Reinitz & Jim Gall invite you to dance and celebrate the end of their reign and welcome the new Senior Ambassadors for 2012-2013. Enjoy the music of the Big Band Sound of Dick Macko, dancing, light supper, and dessert. Cost is $15 per person in advance with a Raspberry Button. Call 952-939-1333 to register. Grande Day Parade Sunday, July 15, 1 pm Mainstreet between 5th & 17th Ave The Grande Day Parade is one of Minnesotas largest, with hundreds of participants including marching bands, floats, visiting dignitaries and much more.

Its time to pull out your calendar and plan an evening of musical entertainment right here in Hopkins! The 20122013 concert season brings something for everyone. From up and coming local artists like Alison Scott to national standards such as Aaron Neville, the line-up offers downtown entertainment without the drive or parking fees. Keep Yard Waste Out Of Your Refuse Cart


State law prohibits residents from placing yard waste in their refuse container (MN Statute 115A.931). If yard waste is found in your refuse cart, the cart will not be picked up. The cart will be tagged with instructions to remove and dispose of the yard waste properly.

Community Image Award Nominations Due August 25


The City of Hopkins annually honors property owners and business owners whose pride shines through their property. The Community Image Award recognizes those who have made significant improvements to their property (including landscaping, accessibility improvements, lighting, signs, or exterior improvements) and those who have demonstrated continued, superior property maintenance. Properties that have received an award within the last 10 years are not eligible.

Wednesday & Thursday refuse and recycling collection the week of July 2 will be delayed one day due to Independence Day. Recycling collection is July 1619 and 30Aug 2.

The award has three categories: Commercial, Industrial, or Office; Multi-Family Residential; and Single Family Residential. If you would like to nominate someone for this award, please complete a nomination form and return it by August 25. With the heat of summer in full swing, those refuse and recycle containers may start to smell. Here are a few simple tips to keep your container clean and reduce the odor. Absentee Vote For Primary


The Primary Election is August 14. If you expect to be out of your precinct on Primary Election Day or are unable to attend your polling place due to illness, disability or religious observance, you may vote by absentee ballot by August 13. Farmers Market Now Open


Join your neighbors at the Hopkins Farmers Market every Saturday, 7:30 am to noon. July produce is rolling in and there is also locally roasted coffee, fresh breads and sweet treats, jams and jellies, local raw honey, woolen products, pickles, flowers and much moreeven tutus!
