inducted Grant Shoaf as our newest Club member. Cliff followed this ceremony with the presentation of the Rotarian of the Year Award to Louise Schopke. The next 15 minutes became somewhat of a blur, as the Moraga Rotary Dramatic Society, composed of Past Presidents, conducted a meeting of the Loyal & Sacred Order of Moraga Rotary Past Presidents. The theme seemed to be a debate whether or not to admit President Nora Avelar into the Society. In the final scenes, the group seemed to relent and admitted Nora into the noble group! The cast consisted of Angelo Costanza, Debbie Roessler, Vickie Devlin, Jim Campbell, Colin Barnard and Tony Scheomehl,. We understand that the script was crafted by Cliff Dochterman. It then became time for Nora to have a rebuttal and opportunity to recognize members with Perfect Attendance Pins and other recognitions. Nora expressed appreciation to the members of the Board of Directors who have assisted during the year and presented each with a bottle of fine wine! In her words of appreciation, Nora mentioned how much she has enjoyed the year and the growing experience. She confessed that she has become a Rotarian for life. The Incoming President Frank May gave Nora the distinctive gavel plaque, the Past President Pin and badge in appreciation of her year of leadership. Frank May made some remarks regarding the forthcoming year and introduced the new Board of Directors. He outlined a series of tasks to be done by Club members to keep a balance of good meetings, membership growth, service activities and social events. He hopes that the Club will find some new and worthwhile projects in working with the local schools. Frank needs members to step forward to take the leadership of Field Day, Christmas Stocking Project, Nite at the Races Fundraiser, and scholarships. New projects he hopes to establish will include: an active membership committee; an International Project; a Microcredit project to help women create small business establishment in third world countries; and support the Afghanistan Trust for Education. The official gavel was returned to President Nora to adjourn her last meeting of an excellent 2011-12 Year of the Moraga Rotary Club!

ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR SELECTED

The Cliff Dochterman Rotarian of the Year Award plaque for 2011- 2012 was presented to Louise Schopke. This Award is selected by a vote of the entire membership of the Club. It is a very special and well deserved recognition for the diligent work of Louise as Club Treasurer and always being available for Club projects and activities. We all give our sincerest Congratulations to Louise for being selected for this years Moraga Rotarian of the Year!

THIS WEEKS PROGRAM

This evening we celebrated and enjoyed the Annual Demotion Dinner as we toasted the year of President Nora Avelar and welcomed the new year of President Frank May! The evening was under the direction of Past President Rich Render who called upon Louise Schopke for the opening invocation and pledge. To set the stage for the evening, a toast was given to Nora by incoming President Frank. Following the dinner, Paul Harris recognition was given to Nora Avelar with appreciation for her contributions to The Rotary Foundation. Cliff Dochterman introduced and

KUDOS OF THE WEEK

We really give a huge vote of thanks to all of the members who worked last week at the new Rancho Laguna Play Area! The fantastic play structure now incorporates the original train and station which Moraga Rotary built as a Rotary Centennial project. It was a very labor intensive activity led by Tony Schoemehl and the hard working team of Mike Rosa, Jim Campbell, Gary Irwin, Rich Render, Lou Roessler, Kevin Reneau, Barb Bruner, Herb Wehmeyer, Frank May, John Erickson, Nora Avelar and perhaps others. Also joining in were Joel Buscheck and Jack Bontemps, members of Orinda Rotary Club. Other workers were from the Lions and Kiwanis Clubs as well as several Boy Scouts and other community members. This was a huge community service project and we appreciate the hard work of our Rotary members!

EDITORIAL COMMENTS
Moraga Rotary has come to the end of our 44th year. To ring out the old year and welcome the new is always a special time. We can look back over past accomplishments with great satisfaction and pleasure. But, it is also possible to think of those opportunities we may have missed or neglected. One area which we all regret is that a few members have moved away or left our club and we have not reached out to invite other deserving community leaders to become Rotarians. As we launch an exciting new Rotary year, let us all resolve that this is the time to share Rotary with other men and women in Moraga. Each member must accept this responsibility as a personal commitment and a New Year resolution.

SOMETHING TO REMEMBER ABOUT ROTARY

A Rotary friend once said to me, You know whats nice about Rotary? He continued: In Rotary you can be yourself. You can exchange greetings, tell a joke, jibe each other and just plain be friendly without getting that sly look that says Wonder what this guy wants? I think that is why we say that Rotary friendships are the very best you can have.

AND ONE MORE THING

Some people may think of Rotarys mission of helping others as a Club of do gooders. But, we should try to make Moraga Rotary a club of good doers. We must keep on doing good things for our community, and be known as the Club of real doers in Moraga!
