Swiss Family Robinson Author: Johann David Wyss Born on May 28, 1743 and passed on January 11, 1818. He is best remembered for his book The Swiss Family Robinson. It is said that he was inspired by Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, but wanted to write a story from which his own children would learn, as the father in the story taught important lessons to his children. The Swiss Family Robinson was first published in 1812 and translated into English two years later. It has since become one of the most popular books of all time.

Plot Summary Theme Reflection The novel was written in the late 1960s, by Mr. Wyss. I started reading this book last 2008, in my freshmen years but I never finished it due to laziness of reading. However, I took the opportunity to finish it when it was required for me to pass a book report. The start of the novel was good because it spoke of abandonship and family assurance. The Robinson family, literally, made their self get to the safe lands after their abandonment in the ship after being wrecked. Then there came the sturggle of the family alone, desserted in an unknown island. They provided for themselves and protected each other from harm. One thing that amazes me most is how they provided for themselves despite the insuffiecience of good materials but due to their hard work, they made everything. One thing more is how they trained these animals like their dogs, a monkey,
an eagle, horses, bulls, jackals, and even an ostrich. They trained these animals to serve them and in turn, protect and raise them. I bet not all person in the world could do that. But the most important thing? How they handled stress and the acceptance that they are indeed alone on that island. I was astonished with their love and care for their family. The protected and comforted each of their family member with everything they had. They even showed much hospitality with their guest even with their present situation. As an overall reaction, I fell amazed. Even there are some things that are really hard to believe, I still salute this novel and to the writer himself. My ratings would be 86-94%.
