Bantu Gan
Hundreds of years before the coming of Islam, a seventh child was born to Lawalanan sa-solog and Tominan sa-Rugang in Lanao While the child was being born there was a great storm and an eclipse. The storm was so strong that the tower at Tominans house was uprooted with his daughter, Inalang. Malikol Jian, the lord of the skies and the great grandfather of Inalang, commanded the winds to bring the child in his domain in Derol Din. Inalang lived in Derol Din until she became a young woman The child that was born during the storm and the darkness was named Bantugan. He grew up to be the bravest warrior of the land His renown doubled when his fairy grandmother gave him a klong that could take him anywhere One day, he arrived at Derol Din and he learned that there are warriors attacking the realm. He singlehandedly fought the warriors and won. Because of his victory, Malikol Jian wanted to thank him, promising that he will give anything that Bantugan asks. Not knowing that the beautiful lady in the court was his sister, Bantugan asked for her hand. Also, not knowing it he is his grandson, Malikol Jian agreed with Bantugans request. Inalang and Bantugan married and they had a child, Baratamay Lumna. Soon, Bantugan brought his family back to earth. But his parents recognized Inalang as their long lost daughter. Everyone was shocked knowing that they are married. This made Bantugan disappointed so he left his estate to his son and just wandered about until eventually he arrived at Bumbaran, the domain of his brother, King Murog. King Murog made him the chief of the army so he stayed longer than he intended. One day, King Murog heard that there was a beautiful place not far from his land named Guindalongan. The description of the place was so good that King Murog immediately wanted to make an alliance with the chief. To make an alliance with the chief of Guindalongan, King Murog proposed that Bantugan marry the daughter of the chief. At first, Bantugan was hesitant but King Murog is able to convince him that they need allies The chief of Gundalongan consented the marriage but another suitor showed up. They engage in battle but it was clear that Bantugan was the better warrior of the two. After the wedding, Bantugan begged to go to Bumbaran alone. He roamed the seas and dropped off at every island he saw. Until at one island he met Maginar, the witch-princess of Babalay Anonan. Maginar so charmed him that he did not notice days pass into weeks. One day, a captain from Bumbaran saw Bantugan and Maginar cavorting on the seashore. The news quickly spread through the city until it reached the ear of King Murog. He wanted to confirm if the rumor was true and upon reaching the said seashore he saw Bantugan When King Murog was able to go back to Bumbaran, he went in solitary confinement for five consecutive days. Then he called on every lord and prince that there is in Bumbaran and he announced that no one should talk to Bantugan if he ever comes back. Not everybody agreed on the Kings decree that no one should talk to Bantugan. One Lord Lumbatan stood up to the King and argued that it is not a wise way to not speak to Bantugan because he will go to exile and never return.
BANTUGAN
More friends of Bantugan stood for him. Soon enough, Bantugan was already at the city. Bantugan really felt unusual because nobody was talking to him, not even one is waving at him. When he reached the courthouse, his friends are not talking to him even though they wanted to. When Bantugan realized that not even his brother is talking to him, he decided to leave the city of Bumbaran. Before he left the city, he said goodbye first to his son, Baratamay Lumna. Although he wanted to come with his father, Bantugan didnt let him When he left, he realized he had no place to go. As he is wandering, he found a grove beside a lake. Inside it and shielded by the clouds was a cota. Not having seen it before, he stopped but suddenly he felt spasms all over his body. Pain seized him again, he tore off his shirt and then the earth suddenly looked green and black. He reached for a betel nut and the next thing he knew was darkness. His friendly spirits came and flew him off to a tower near the seashore. He entered the tower and saw a woman busily sewing. The woman, Princess Timbang, directed him to lie on her bed but he refused. She left for a sorcerer to be summoned. But when she came back, he was already delirious. He opened his eyes and saw the face of Princess Timbang, he cried but soon after he died. No one could identify who Bantugan is because he is a stranger in that place. The Sultan of Natangkopan posted banns givng reward to those who can identify him but there is none. Soon, a green parrot came and then they knew the identity of Bantugan because he is the parrots master. Princess Timbang set out a caravan for the body of Bantugan to be sent back to Bumbaran. Princess Timbangs own parrot brought the news ahead of time to the people of Bumbaran. When the news got into Bumbaran, King Murog, fainted. While Prince Mabaning and Prince Madali flew into the sky for 20 days, enduring different climates. When they reached the sky, they tricked the angel guarding the skies and from the bottles they tried to retrieve Bantugans soul When the two princes came back to Earth, they uncorked the bottle and a pale mist drifted up. The mist united with the body and then suddenly Bantugan woke up as if from deep sleep. The people who were earlier mourning rejoiced because Bantugan was brought back to life. But the joy was short lived because the arch enemy of Bumbaran, Miscoyaw was there to attack the city. Fear reigned among the people, but Bantugan fearlessly went to the seashore and fought the army of the Miscoyaw. Bantugan fought for 3 straight days and he started to feel exhausted. One enemy pushed him but a crocodile pushed him back to the boat and together they fought Miscoyaw. At the fifth night, Bantugan fell on the floor due to exhaustion. He was held captive by the enemy but soon, he regained his strength and beat the enemy. Bantugan cannot forget the face of the kind lady who helped him when he was dying. He cannot erase the memory of Princess Timbang in his head. He started visiting his lady friends but still he could not forget her. So he decided to go and find her. When he reached Natangkopan, there was another suitor of Princess Timbang. The Sultan wanted Bantugan to be the husband of his daughter so he lied a little to the other suitor. But while the marriage is being conducted, the other suitor came, they engage in battle but it was always draw. The Spaniards retreated while the Sultan sent his daughter and Bantugan away for safety. The Spaniards came back and set Natangkopan on fire. Bantugan and the Spaniards engaged again in a battle but as Bantugans kumpit approaches the Spaniards, a whirlpool appeared and sucked the kumpit. Filled with grief, Princess Timbang went to the site where the whirlpool appeared but her kumpit too was also sucked by the whirlpool. Then the surface calmed.
