One Memorial Day, some children were asked what the holiday meant to them. Thats the day the swimming pool opens! answered one eager boy. What he didnt realize or appreciate was that he can freely go to the pool because more than one million people have put their lives on the line to preserve Americas democracy. Many of them have died so citizens of other countries might also enjoy the privileges of political, social and economic freedom. Memorial Day is our opportunity to pause and remember the sacrifices of many of Americas best citizens. They made the supreme sacrifice on our behalf, so please remember to honor these heroes on May 26. (The NEWSLETTER Newsletter)

Valleys symbolize lifes dark or low points; for example, Psalm 23:4 refers to the valley of the shadow of death (NIV). But valleys also symbolize people who find Gods favor because theyre lowly and meek. As a result, valleys can be places of blessing. God lifts his people out of despair and rewards their faithfulness. He also promises to level conditions by raising up valleys and bringing down mountains (see Isaiah 40:4).

1 John 3:8 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and truth.

Dont Miss Your Chance to Bless and Be Blessed...The Needs are Many
Rather, the songs title and refrain say it all: Theyll know we are Christians by our love. Jesus put it this way: Everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:35, NIV). Sometimes love involves words teaching, proclaiming, bearing witness to Gods presence. But if words arent backed by actions, they soon fall flat. We can, as the song says, spread the news that God is in our land. But if we dont live like that, no one will believe it. When we declare Gods reality but withhold kindness from neighbors, observers rightly question whether we follow the God whose presence we announce. But if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us (1 John 4:12). (The NEWSLETTER Newsletter)

Please continue to give toward this wonderful ministry. Thank You! How Will They Know? A well-known 1960s song by Peter Scholtes answers an implied question: How will others know were Jesus disciples? Not by how we understand family values. Not by our politics or theology. Not by how many Bible verses weve memorized, how often we attend church or how much offering we give.

Many times we are asked, Who is my deacon? To help you, we will list the Deacon of the Week and his list of families in the WLBC Bulletin ENewsletter. There will be a complete list posted on the bulletin board near the church office. This complete list is alphabetical by your last name. We hope this will help you know who your deacon is for the year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the church office.

In the Old Testament book of Job, the title character suffers many losses. During three separate raids in quick succession, he loses his livestock and servants. While still reeling from that news, Job learns that his children died during a furious windstorm. Later, Job also loses his health, when a skin disease causes sores all over his body. From the list below, choose the one thing Job did not do in response to his great misfortune: A. tore his clothes and shaved his head B. cursed God and died C. sat among ashes D. worshiped the Lord (See Job 12.)
A Safe Haven Dont ride in automobiles; they cause 20 percent of all fatal accidents. Dont stay at home; 17 percent of all accidents occur in the home. Dont walk on the street or the sidewalk; 14 percent of all accidents happen to pedestrians. Dont travel by air, rail or water; 16 percent of all accidents happen on these. However, only 0.001 percent of all deaths reported occur in worship services. Therefore, the safest place for you to be is in church. Sunday school is also relatively safe.
