Application Information

Eligibility Any U.S. citizen and graduate of U.S. school of medicine. Fourth year medical students, interns, GMOs as well as other eligible candidates may apply. Acceptance mandates an active duty military contract and obligation. One of the most established programs in the nation with 1st class starting in 1977. We have a 100% ABEM board passage rate over the past 5 years. Routinely placing in the top 10% of programs for InTraining test scores. Former faculty and residents have gone on to make outstanding professional contributions including presidents of ACEP, SAEM, Deans of Medical Schools, Chairmen of large ED depts., Consultants to the Surgeon General (Army & Air force) authors of multiple books and journals

First military EMS fellowship program Two years with MPH Ultrasound Fellowship started 2011 Research has more than tripled over past 5 years with almost 4 million dollars in grant money approved. Robust Clinical Research Center and multi-million dollar Simulation Centers. Program faculty run the Air Forces medical toxicology program and lead pilot unit for Critical Care Transport

Residents manage all emergency patients supervised by ABEM boarded or eligible faculty 24/7 EM-1s Focus on fundamentals EM-2s Concentrate on resuscitations and multitasking EM-3 Manage entire department Off Service rotations to medicine, surgery, anesthesia, ObGyn, Orthopedics, Toxicology, AMS, Pediatrics Away rotations are located in Austin, Houston, New York, etc Unique military focused tactical rotation

Military salary and benefits compare very favorably to civilian resident compensations. We offer comprehensive medical, dental, vision, disability, retirement and malpractice package. Allowances for moving, travel, and uniforms. EM shifts at BAMC and WHMC generally are 9 hours in length which allows time to read and be with family. Four Resident days off a year (faculty provides ED coverage). Monthly Chief Resident breakfast.
