KIeso, Weygandt, and Warfield. Intermediate Accounting, Wiley, 14th edition. (1) to obtain a thorough understanding of financial accounting principles and accounting theory, primarily for corporate financial accounting (2) to improve the student's communication skills, both verbally and written Four regular 150-point exams will be given during the course of the semester. All students are expected to take each exam at the scheduled time. If an emergency occurs, please contact your instructor as soon as possible; you may be asked to verify the event causing the emergency. I will give all makeup exams during the student rest day right before finals at the same time and in the same room. Approximately 10 homework and 10 quizzes, each worth 5 points, will be taken up during the semester for students that sign a homework sheet. You will be allowed to drop the lowest four homework/quizzes (THIS POLICY DOES NOT APPLY TO EXAMS). Late homework WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED and no MAKE-UP QUIZZES WILL BE GIVEN. Homework and quizzes will count for 100 points. For students that do not sign the homework grade, I will assign the grade based solely on the quizzes (quizzes are worth 100 points) and you can drop two quizzes. I grade the homework based on both effort and correctness; thus, the homework is also a grade for effort. You need to take the homework/quizzes seriously. Terry J. Ward

Additional work:
Students need to summarize one article. The summary is worth 25 points. Attendance: Attendance is very important if a student truly wishes to do well in this class. If a student misses more than FIVE classes during the semester, he/she may receive a failing grade for the course. All electronic devices, programmable calculators, cell phones, etc., must be turned off and put away during exams. Students should also turn cell phones and other devices off upon entering the classroom, except for emergency situations. Failure to follow this policy during an exam will result in the student receiving a failing grade on the exam.
Electronic Devices:
Failure to follow the policy during class may result in the student being asked to leave the classroom. Other: Students will not be allowed to withdraw, or allowed to change the class to an audit, after the university drop period. Likewise, I do not give extra credit to improve a students grade. Each student needs to maintain good work habits throughout the semester. All work assigned and completed counts toward the final grade. Students are expected to arrive to class on time. Entering class during a lecture is rude to both the instructor and the other students in the class. I realize that each of us may be late occasionally. However, please do not make a habit of arriving late. Arriving late to class after I have taken attendance, and leaving class early before I dismiss the class, counts as half a class absence towards the attendance policy. The total points earned by the student will be converted to a letter grade based on a ten-point scale. For example, assuming that the total possible points for the semester are 725 points, the following scale would be used to determine the grade for each student: 90 - 100% 80 - 89% 70 - 79% 60 - 69% Below 60% 652 to 725 points 580 to 651 points 507 to 579 points 435 to 506 points Below 435 points A B C D F
I reserve the right whether or not to round up to the newest whole percentage number. I normally look at attendance and trend on test scores in determining whether to round up. I also reserve the right to assign + or grades during the semester. Entrance Requirement: As specified in the MTSU undergraduate catalog, students enrolling in Intermediate I must achieve a passing grade on a departmental admission exam. A student enrolled in Intermediate I during Spring 2012 semester must take the Intermediate Readiness Exam, unless he/she met the entrance requirement as part of the Intermediate I curriculum during Fall 2011 semester. A score of 70 percent or higher on the Intermediate Readiness Exam qualifies as a passing grade and fulfills the entrance requirement. A student who does not score 70 percent or higher on the Intermediate Readiness Exam can still meet the entrance requirement by successfully completing ALEKS for The Accounting Cycle by 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2012. A student who does not successfully complete the entrance requirement by 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 will be given the option of withdrawing from the course for the semester or remaining in
Intermediate I for the duration of the semester and receiving a semester grade of F. In the event that a student chooses to remain enrolled in Intermediate I after failing to meet the entrance requirement by the deadline of 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, no assignments or tests will be graded from that point forward.
