OUSA By-Elections Voting in the OUSA By-Elections is now underway. Putting the issue of voluntary student membership and student services fees aside for the moment, we would encourage all of our members with current Otago student IDs to vote and promote candidates which most closely align with the principles of fiscal and individual responsibility. We recommend you vote for Administrative Vice President candidate Mat Jordan, Campaigns candidate Todd Dickens, Colleges candidate Maddie Harris, and International Students' candidate Ding Yi (Ding). The National Party Mainland Conference is being held from 27-29 April. Expressions of interest in attending the Conference as a Member and/or as a delegate are encouraged. More details will be available in the coming weeks.

Check out the Facebook Event for more details, and you can also access John's Policy Discussion document for some more background info. "Questions For Oral Answer" The new YNSR Pub Quiz team, christened "Questions For Oral Answer" has been rescheduled to next Monday 26 March at The Bog (due to The Bog resurfacing their floors following St Paddy's Day!). Check out the Event Page to register your interest and stake your claim as the organisations trivia guru. We're still scheduled for fortnightly attendance, but if interest is high we'll move to competing weekly, and we will look into taking on some of the other quizzes around.

We're also on Twitter, you can follow us at @sryoungnats.

Two important Party meetings are coming up that give you the opportunity to pass on any questions or queries to be raised on your behalf. The first is a conference call with the NZYN Executive this Thursday 22 March. The second is a Southern Region monthly meeting in Dunedin, which involves the Chairs of the Southern Electorates and our own Chair, the Chair and Policy Chair of the Southern Region, and any other keen minds who want to come along. Let us know if you have anything you'd like us raise.

access to the rights and privileges of Party Membership.

Last Wednesday, as part of our Brighter Communities Programme, we joined the Mayor of Dunedin on a (very brisk) walk around one of the local heritage trails to promote walking to work in Dunedin as a viable means of commuting every day. We had a very good chance to talk oneon-one with the Mayor about the city, the Stadium, and the Otago Rugby Union (although his lips were impressively sealed before the marathon meeting later that day). Most importantly we were able to open a dialogue about our Brighter Studies initiative to get some civics workshops into local secondary schools. If the Mayor can endorse our efforts we'll have some decent leverage with which we can present a non-partisan, information-based programme to expose secondary students to the processes of government and the importance of being politically aware. We're looking to contribute outside of the political arena to make the communities within the Southern Region a better place. If you're in, or know of, a group or project which needs some helping hands, we'd love to hear from you. Please get in touch with our Brighter Communities Programme Coordinator Mark Currie today. bumped up to 5/8 in Week Three. Still leading the way is "Steveman" by one.You can still join our league, invite code is 169043.

Meanwhile, in the Super Rugby, we're storming up the board to clear third, having collected 32 points this week for a total of 137 and nipping at the heels of current leader John Brinsley-Pirie. I (James) was our "star of the week" in picking up 37 points, moving well clear of Mark "Choker" Currie. You can join us here too: Young Nats Southern Region. Tokyo Gardens BYO Great reports back from our supplementary members event last Wednesday as we took to the Tokyo Gardens for a BYO. Although we were by far the most composed and civil group, good times were still had and it was great to welcome along new members who couldn't make it along to the Eureka event a couple of weeks back. Keep an eye out for our yearly timetable which will be out soon, and which hopefully includes some must-attend visits from Education Minister and risingstar Hon. Hekia Parata, and Attorney-General Hon. Chris Finlayson.

As part of our Brighter Studies Programme, we're going to start holding academic tutorials for our younger members to supplement their current learning and help them with any difficulties they might be having. Our aim is to connect the skills and knowledge of older graduates or neargraduates, as well as those who have moved on to employment, with our younger members to help nurture their academic progression. If you or anybody you know would be interested in helping tutor, please let the Programme Coordinator Stephanie-Mai Lowe know. Also, if you're a member who would like a bit of extra help with their studies, get in touch with Steph as well so that she knows what skills and expertise she needs to be on the look out for.

While final details are just being confirmed, we can let you know that there are three main functions you should be interested in. The most important for us is the Conference Registration itself, which is $65 for YNSR members ($95 for all other Party members). We're also looking to raise some funds to further subsidise that price by another $25 in order to try and get our maximum number of delegates (18) to the official Conference sections. The other important functions to take note of are the Dinner & Debate on the Friday evening following registration ($35 per head for YNSR members, $100 per head for others), organised by Dunedin South, and the Cocktails & Dinner on Saturday evening ($30 per head), organised by Dunedin North. We will make more details available as they come, but please save the date in your diaries and do consider taking a part in formal parts of the Conference.

Membership
As always, I encourage anybody who hasn't already done so, to sign up with the Party at youngnats.org.nz/join/ as either a Member or a Supporter so that we can ensure you're entered into our system. As we move towards the real decision making forums in the year, it's a good opportunity to have serious input into the workings of government. Check out our Facebook Page for more regular discussions, and add me on Facebook if you'd like access to our Members & Supporters-only group on Facebook where we discuss further internal Party matters. Sorry about the slight delay on the newsletter this week, it's been a mad week for me personally as I move from one job to another, prepare for a further interview, and start my Legal Profs. Just something else for all you aspiring junior law clerks to look forward to! Cheers, James Rawiri Meager Chair
