Perfect for the entryway, living room or even one end of the dining room, this handsome hall tree features a convenient place to hang coats, hats and umbrellas over a generously sized storage bench. Made from straight cuts of standard lumber and plywood, the project is easy enough for woodworkers of any skill level. The hall tree measures about 70 inches tall by 45 inches wide by 21 inches deep.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Read manufacturers instructions before operating equipment. Always wear safety glasses. Drill pilot holes when using screws or finish nails to attach one board to another. We used poplar and birch for this project, but oak or pine will work equally well. We painted our project, but the builder may choose another finish.

Read all instructions before beginning any work. Cut all material to sizes shown in cutting schedule.

1. Attach trim boards (B) to top edges of sides (A) using glue and 1 finish nails. Refer to Pictorial. 2. Attach side assemblies (A, B) to bottom (C) using glue and 1 1/2 finish nails. Check for squareness. Refer to Top and Side Views. 3. Attach trim board (E) to top edge of front board (D) using glue and 1 finish nails. Check for squareness. Refer to Side View. 4. Attach front assembly (D, E) to box assembly (A, B, C) using glue and 1 1/2 finish nails. Check for squareness. Refer to Pictorial and Front, Side and Top Views. 5. Attach back (F) to box assembly (A, B, C, D, E) using glue and 1 1/2 finish nails. Note that back (F) should extend 1 1/2 past the bottom of the box to form the projects rear legs. Refer to Pictorial and Front, Side and Top Views. 6. Attach boards (G) and (H) to box and back assembly (A, B, C, D, E, F) using glue and 1 1/4 finish nails. Refer to Pictorial and Front, Side and Top Views. 7. Attach boards (I) each side of box assembly using glue and 1 1/4 finish nails. Refer to Pictorial and Side and Top Views. 8. Attach boards (J), (K) and (L) to front of box assembly using glue and 1 1/4 finish nails. Refer to Pictorial and Front View. 9. Attach boards (M) to front side of back panel (F) using glue and 1 1/4 finish nails. Refer to Pictorial and Front, Side and Top Views.

10. Cut notch and gain in both ends of board (N). Refer to Figure 1.

11. Attach board (N) to box assembly using glue and 1 1/2 finish nails. Refer to Pictorial and Front, Side and Top Views.

12. Place project on its back and attach board (O) to top of back (F) using glue and 1 1/4 finish nails. Refer to Pictorial and Front and Side Views. 13. With project still on its back, attach boards (P) and (Q) to back (F) using glue and 1 1/4 finish nails. Refer to Pictorial and Front View. 14. Stand project up and attach board (R) to boards (G) and (O) using glue and 1 1/2 finish nails. Refer to Pictorial and Front, Side and Top Views. 15. Attach trim boards (T) and (U) to edges of seat (S) using glue and 1 finish nails. Refer to Pictorial and Top View. 16. Cut gains for hinges in back edge of seat (S) using board (N) as a reference. 17. Sand and apply finish of choice to the project. 18. Install hinges and attach seat (S, T, U) to project. 19. Attach coat hooks to boards (P). Refer to Front View.
