Hyperbolic Identities
These can be derived directly from the trigonometric identities using Osborn’s
Rule: change the sign of any product of two sines.
For example, since cos2 x + sin2 x = 1, we have cosh2 x − sinh2 x = 1.
Also, since every tangent includes a sine, 1 + tan2 x = sec2 x implies that
1 − tanh2 x = sech2 x.
